Chapter 21 - Supernatural

“What now?” I turn around when I hear his voice. I meet the carrier’s blue eyes and in this occasion I don’t see the sassy attitude, I only see his tired expression. And a bit worried, I think.

“What do you mean?” I ask but a little smile creeps its way to my lips.

I see a bit of the normal Louis when he rolls his eyes at me and folds his arms before he sits on the white floor with his legs crossed. “I mean what do you plan to do now that Liam knows your face? He already almost had a breakdown back there with Cassidy,” the carrier speaks and my smile grows a bit wider.

Not that I’m happy he had a breakdown, well maybe, he deserves that for kissing Cassidy. He shouldn’t have done that! Anyways, what makes me happy is that it’s a matter of time for all this to be sorted out and I’m closer than ever. Liam suspects there’s something else now, and he won’t take long to figure out I’m here. He may have kissed Cass, but he’s not an idiot. He will figure it out. And he’ll realise these are not his feelings, these are my feelings and he’s just getting confused. And he’ll realise that the only way I’ll leave this place is if he tells her.

I’m now completely sure this will work.

I’m so thankful Cass showed him that picture of us. And I’m happy she still has it. She still has feelings for me. Although… although she didn’t exactly turned him down but she also said she feels closer to me when she’s near Liam, so I guess she’s also confused. She’ll be happy to finally understand what’s happening.

“You still think you have a chance with Cassidy?” Louis asks me. “Still, after you know you’re dead and you’ve heard how hard it’s been for her?” He carries on and I look away. “Jake, don’t you see what you’re doing? Moving on from a dear one’s death is hard enough and you’re only making it harder for her. You show Liam things that you know will make her think of you, things that will make her keep you close to her heart. She has to move on and Liam wants to help her, yet here you are, trying to sabotage her chance.”

“But she loves me…” I whisper.

“She loved you. You’re dead, now, Jake, and you know you’re fading away. Tell me, when did you meet Cassidy?” He asks and I open my mouth to reply, as naturally as it’s always been… but no words come out of my mouth.

I look for the memory, I look for that mental image I had before, I know I had it. When we met, when we became friends. Where is that memory now?

“You’re fading away, Jake. You’re even losing her and if you don’t leave, it’s going to be too late,” Louis explains but I shake my head.

“I’m so close, Louis. Don’t you see? I bet that once Liam wakes up he’ll think through this and he will figure it out. He’ll tell her.”

“You don’t know that. You see how hard it was for him and how scared he was when he saw your face. Being here is not only dangerous for you, Jake. Liam is in danger as well, he may lose his mind. Bodies are not meant to struggle with two souls.”

“Where’s his soul, though?” I ask, because I’ve never seen it.

“His soul and his body are one. That’s the natural thing, Jake. You’re not supposed to be here, that’s why you’re in this empty space. Why can’t you leave Cassidy to move on, let her be with Liam?”

“He doesn’t love her!” I protest, getting angry with the carrier.

“But he may love her, as much as you did once.”
