The sun shone across the sky

The sun shone across the sky. Some people visiting this area might not take notice to it, but the northern part of Diatora rarely had the sun out. Diatora was my home planet where humans had to live after our ancestors wasted Earth. It was the only planet that had the essential resources for humans to live. That was around 400 years ago when the last era ended. Then the new era was born, called the wealthy era, which is quite ironic as 84% of our population was in fact poor. Including myself.

As I made my way, on my bike, to the stable where I worked at, I felt the sun warm my skin. It was nice to enjoy it while it lasted.

"Don't forget to sign in Evelyn." Apollo said as I enter the stable. I had worked here for three years since the age of 14, but he had not bothered to get my name right. He wasn't obnoxious but just not concerned enough to learn my proper name. When I first starting working, I would correct him, but after being ignored countless times, I just stopped.

The stable was one of my favorite places to be, despite having to be here every day. In Diatora, everyone stopped going to school at 14 and assigned a job. The only people who continued into school was the 16% of rich people who usually ended up becoming doctors.I got a very fortunate job compared to some of the available options which included pluming in the sewers, a very deadly job.

Working at the stables was a very simple job. Feed the horses, wash them, wash their stable. The only hard part of the job was the amount of horses here. Horses were The North's number one method of transportation and were always being brought in by the Protectors for clean up and care. There were a number of other stables across The North that were much larger than my workplace which was a good thing because not a lot of people worked here. It was only me, Apollo, an old lady who still seemed to be working and an apprentice.

As I looked at my next horse, I gave a disgusted look as I saw mud all over the rear end of the horse. Although working here for three years, I had not gotten used to having to clean off mud and poo. The horse had a saddle that I needed to take off, it had to be fed an then cleaned.

As I did so, I thought about what Nona, my grandmother, was doing. I had lived with her since I was 6 years old. My mom died while giving birth and my dad was killed in a bar fight. My grandmother was the nicest person I knew. She had once worked for the government, but has since retired. Nona tended to read all the old history books in our house.

I finished the horse, I checked the old clock on top of the main doors and saw that I had been there for one hour. I turned to the next horse, which was a beautiful white horse. But as soon as I saw the stable, my attention was not drawn to the white horse.

Right at the back of the little boxed room was a girl sitting in the haystack confused. Her eyes appeared a greyish blue as she looked up at me, and her hair was blonde, which was a common hair colour in The North. But I immediately knew she was not from here because of her tanned skin. The North was cold, and never had enough sun to give you a tan.

The girl had a sort of essence that reminded me of familiarity but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. As to why the girl was in the barn, I had no idea. But one thing was for certain; she was not from The North.

Trying to understand what she was doing in a horse stable, I said "May I help you?" She looked up at me and opened her mouth as if to say something but then closed it again.

"Oh uhh no I don't think you can." She got up from the haystack and started walking out, making sure to keep a distance from the horse. But turning around she added, "Actually I was wondering if you had a mirror nearby? And maybe a coat. Its very cold here." I gave her a surprised look. Why was she in a stable looking for a mirror? Where was her coat?

"If you're wondering how you look, you look fine." I stated. "We have some rain jackets hanging by the door, but do return them because my boss hates when we take them. And by the way, you look really familiar. Did you go to the school down by the river?"
She gives me a confused look and I take that as a no.

"Mirrors aren't just used for looking at yourself thank you very much" She says with a slightly rude tone. "But thanks for the jacket." She started heading out the door but I stop her.

"I'll show you where the bathroom is. It has a full length mirror." I make my way down the corridor and opened the door. She immediately ran to the mirror a bit to eager and touched it. When she pulled back, she touched it repeatedly forcefully.

"No no no! This stupid thing is supposed to be working! Why isn't it working?!" She looked to me but I shrugged even more confused than her. "I didn't catch your name. I'm Ambria."

"Everly. Was the mirror supposed to be special or something? I'm pretty sure my boss bought it down at the blacksmiths' workshop."

She hesitates before answering but than obliges. "Well since you look like someone who I can trust--Which is a good thing for you because I don't like to trust people--I'll tell you. Now this might be a weird question, but where am I?"

"You're in a horse stable" I reply worrily.

"Horse? That's what that beast was? But can you elaborate on that?"

"Horses are not beasts! And you're in The North. I'm guessing you're from The South?"

"Nope never heard of the The South-- or The North-- in my life. Okay now I'm not sure if I am correct or not, but... I think I teleported..." I gave her a look as if she is crazy. "Okay have you ever heard about the Domination?" I shake my head as she continued. "Exactly. Right after school I went into this warehouse, touched this mirror and boom next thing I know, I'm sitting on prickly things next to a hoos!"

Was that even possible? Teleportation? She was clearly not from The North, she had never heard of The South. She spoke of an odd word-- Domination. The idea seemed too absurd to even think about, yet I had a gut feeling that what she was saying was true. "I think I know what to do. Come on."

I head for the main doors, but don't forget to write a note to Apollo saying that I wasn't feeling well and I had Decided to go home for the day.

"My Nona used to work for the government plus she reads a ton of books. If she were to know anything about this teleportation that you think you've experienced, she'll know." I explain as we walk to my village.
