I couldn't stop thinking about how Orion had treated me for the rest of the day. And then all through the night until the next morning when Everly came by.
There was a fine knock on the door and I go to answer it. I have decided to completely ignore Margaret's warning about answering the door since I highly doubt anyone is going to come this far out here. I open the door to find Everly standing on the other side. She has a giddy smile on her face and cant seem to stay still. She seems to be in a good mood unlike me.
"Why are you so happy?" I ponder. While I welcome her into Margaret's home. Margaret is actually upstairs at the moment getting ready to go to work. Just like Everly should be too.
"Why are you so... unhappy?" Everly retorts in a teasing manner. She sits down on the exact spot Orion had sat in yesterday. Although she sits nothing like him, she jumps up and down on the seat.
"I asked you first." I reply with a grouchy tone.
"You would believe who I met yesterday." She doesn't let me guess and just continues to talk. "Yesterday when I was at work I met the most beautiful man I have ever seen then him and his father came to dinner. Turns out his name is Cayden. He is just so gorgeous!? And today I'm going to see him at work again!" She exclaims.
"Your overjoyed because you saw a beautiful guy?" Why is she so excited about this one guy? It just doesn't make sense. Unless... she likes him. "Everly do you have feelings for Cayden?"
"No, no way. I just met him you're crazy. He's just so beautiful and super nice when you get to know him. And I can't wait to speak to him again." She continues to ramble on completely oblivious to the wistful look in her eyes.
"Yeah I'm sure you have no feelings for him whatsoever." I wish I was as carefree as Everly instead I'm stuck with men like Orion who just seem to cause me trouble. Life just didn't seem to like me.
"Now let's talk about you miss grumpy pants. What has gotten you so grave?"
"I know you're going to be mad about this but please stay calm." I beg knowing this isn't going to end well. "Yesterday after everyone left and I was bored out of my mind Orion came around. He came in wanting to know about what had happened to me when I teleported. Obviously I couldn't tell him anything because I honestly didn't know anything. I thought I would ask if he perhaps knew anything and he got all secretive. This then led to a giant fight and now i'm bummed out with him and I never want to see him again as long as i'm in this world." I finish talking and expect Everly to be fuming, which she is, and ready to explode. But she doesn't, instead she grabs my arm and starts pulling me towards the door. She throws the jacket at me which I catch and start putting on without a question.
"Margaret I am taking Ambria for a walk and I'll bring her back safely before I go to work. See you later." We walk out of the house and I pull my hood up, we walk down the well used path towards the town. When we walk onto the crowded streets and Everly starts to look around. As though she is looking for someone.
"Everly where are we going and who are you looking for?"
"We are looking for that horrid man, Orion. We are going to sort out your little problem." Everly is a little crazy but I could never have asked for a better friend. Are we even friends? I think we are, at least Everly is definitely my one and only friend. She might scare me a little at the moment just because of her terrifying facial expression but I know she wouldn't be able to hurt a fly if she wanted to. Although I was a little nervous for Orion.
We continue you to walk searching for Orion. Everly mumbles curses under her breathe until we finally ran into Orion. "Orion." Everly bellows, scaring the life out of me. She also frightens Orion making him turn around hastily. We walk over to him, Everly still pulling me by my arm. I don't dare look at Orion and stare straight ahead.
"Orion you are an idiot. What was your reason for so inconsiderate towards Ambria?" Everly interrogates. "You come to Ambria and force her to tell you information that you aren't willing to share with her in return. You can't treat people like this."
"Really Everly? And who's going to stop me?" How stupid am I to get involved with a guy like this?
"You'll learn your place soon enough Orion. Just so you know Ambria never wants to see you again. Not on this world or any other." My attention snaps to Everly and I notice that she looks smug. She just told Orion what I had told her earlier. So why do I now feel so anxious to see how Orion feels about what she said. I chance a glance at his face and catch him watching me.
"Is that true Ambria? Is that how you really feel?" Orion asks with a stark expression. Do I want to see Orion right now? No I don't. Would I really want to never see him ever again. No I wouldn't, a small part of me wants to know Orion. That part wants to know what happened to him that he can't share. A bigger part of me is hesitant to get to know him, that part wants me to stay away from him.
"It is." I can't look at him any longer. I stare at the ground as though it is the most interesting thing I had seen in a long time.
"If that's how you feel then I'll be sure to stay away from you. Goodbye Ambria." I glance at Orion's eyes one last time and notice the spark that is usually in them has dulled. He turns around and walks away. The farther he goes the more we seem to fall apart. My shoulders sag and start to regret ever saying anything to him. Everly notices the change of mood and turns me around towards her. When she inspects my eyes she finds them glistening which prompts her to wrap her arms around me. We stand in the middle of the streat supporting each other while the people around us carry on with their normal ordeals.
I don't even realize we are home until I'm sitting on the couches in Margaret's living room. I curl up into a ball and Everly pulls a blanket around me. She goes into the kitchen and leaves me alone to my thoughts. I sincerely miss my own world where everything was normal. I didn't have to worry about someone finding out about me. When I never knew about Orion. I missed my sanctuary. I also think about what I would not have known if this had never happened. I would never had known what a horse was or that there was another world. Most importantly I would never have met Everly.
Everly returns with cup of tea. She hands the cup to me and sits down beside me. Suddenly I remember that Everly was excited to go to work today since was going to see Cayden again. "Everly you need to go to work now." I prompt. While taking a sip of my tea.
"No it's alright I'll stay with you today. Your more important than work."
"Nope Everly I will not be the reason stopping you from spending more time with Cayden."
"Are you sure it's alright if I leave you alone." Everly finally concedes. She leaves a few minutes later with me pushing her to leave.
