Lunch seemed to drag on forever. I was just sitting there, bored out of my mind. Thank god the bell rang. Sonia said her goodbyes to her friends and we walked out of the crowded gym. After two long minutes we got upstairs. We found our locker, 325. It was orange and very dirty. I wonder how long ago they'd cleaned these. As I spun the dial, I couldn't help but feel kind of grossed out. I quickly opened it and we got our binders.

"We have to tell Mrs. Leed our new combination." Sonia said, as we neared room 209.

I was thinking about how much longer we had until home time. I absentmindedly said. "Yeah."

We got to class and told Mrs. Leed that our new combo. She wrote it down.

"Thank you for telling me girls."

We sat down in our seats. Mrs. Leed started taking attendance. After she was done we all started to talk and she sent the attendance down to the office.

I was bored because Natalie and Lauren were talking about dance class. Apparently they took jazz together.

"You can't wear underwear and the dress is very high!" Natalie complained to Abby.

"Yeah. It's black and skintight." Lauren added.

Abby looked understanding "Oh. That must feel awkward."

"Okay, everyone, stop talking. Mrs. Corbin and I decided that we're going on a picnic Friday." Mrs. Leed continued "You can bring snacks for the class. It'a going to be a hike and its supposed to be hot. Dress appropriately."

"You guys are going to get your schedules today. We are going to colour code them." Mrs. Corbin paused "I'll get my highlighters and markers." Mrs. Corbin left.

Mrs. Lees started handing out our schedules. We all had the same classes at the same time. Mrs. Leed handed out the schedules and we passed them out. There were extras at my group so we each got two. Mrs. Leed took out her markers just as Mrs. Corbin arrived with her basket. It was full of markers and highlighters.

Mrs. Leed went up to the board. " Okay so first we are going to do homeroom orange." Mrs. Corbin started handing out orange markers. Mrs. Leed wrote it on the board. "LA/SS will be yellow. M/S will be pink." Mrs. Leed helped Mrs. Corbin and orange and pink highlighters.

I started colouring mine. So they combined Language Arts and History and Geography into LA/SS. Math and Science into M/S. I had homeroom every morning each day. There were four periods 72 minutes each. I finished colouring my schedule and waited for the next colours.

Mrs. Leed went back up to the board. " Music will be purple and D/D will be black. Art will be brown." Mrs. Leed told us. D/D probably stood for drama and dance.

A girl raised her hand and said "Shouldn't art be all colourful?"

"It should but its not. You can make it colourful if you like." Mrs. Leed said, slightly irritated.

We finished colouring the rest of our schedule in silence. No one said anything. My group started colouring our second copy, waiting for the class to finish. We only had half an hour left of school. Mrs. Leed took us to our lockers once we finished colouring. She brought tape. We taped our schedules into our lockers.

Since we only had 15 minutes left, we played the name game again. I was good at it. We had to stack our stools onto our desks because there were only two minutes left. I lined up.

Mrs. Leed came up to me and asked "How was your first day Rosy?"

"Good." I mumbled, avoiding her eyes.

The bell rang and we all left. It was so crowded. At my old school, it wasn't this crowded. I squeezed through the crowd and barely managed to find my locker. It was jam packed and everybody was pushing. I opened my locker quickly and put my binder and pencil case in my bag. Sonia arrived just as I was about to lock it. She took her stuff and I locked it. The crowd had died down a bit so I went down the stairs and found an exit. My mom was waiting and I got into my van.
