"Hey Biscocho, " I heard a soft voice above me say, as I sat on the ground.

"I was just...ahem..trying to..pass time while I waited for you." I folded the note and immediately hid it inside my pocket.

"I can see that, " he replied, taking a seat beside me.

"So what's up?"

"Well there's gonna be this bonfire at my friend Yoandri's beach house, and...since you kinda owe me, I figured-"

"That I could go with you?" I interrupted.

"Before you say no, I meant just as friends, alright?"

"Why ?" I asked.

"Why what? " he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Why me? Why can't you just.." I began to protest, but the touch of his index finger upon my lips, for some reason made me lose my voice.

"I really need a date, please? In exchange, I'll be your ride to school from now on." He argued,

"I've plans, much more important things to take care of, so yeah...." I replied.

"So what are your plans?" He asked in a mocking tone.

"Well I've to...do a lot of things , "

"Oh C'mon wouldn't you much rather get busy with me, than spend the day watching a soap opera at your grandma's while listening to her bunion complaints?"

"I don't know Joel, I mean I'm not gonna know anyone there and when you ditch me, which I know you will, I'll just awkwardly be standing there not knowing what to do—"

He brought his index finger up to my lips, "biscocho, I will handcuff us together if it makes you feel any better. I'll pick you up at seven." His gaze dropped from my eyes to where his finger lingered on my bottom lip.

Don't touch me. You're giving my lungs a hard time functioning properly.

"Fine." I said below a whisper.

I had to admit, it felt rather odd going to a party without Christopher. The only parties I ever went to, were his. I was like a kaleidoscope of emotions tonight. My heart thrummed excitedly, as Joel drove us to Yoandri's place, we weren't in complete silence for Joel was humming lightly to some tune that appeared to be some sort of ranchera.

But other than that, we were both lost in thought. My thoughts kept drifting back to Christopher, I was crazy worried about him, yet I hated the fact he hadn't come to me to help him figure out how to deal with whatever weigh he had.

"What chu thinking about biscocho?"

"Christopher." I replied.

"Que descarada , eh?" He chuckled, "but I gotta say, I actually do appreciate your honesty."

"Shut up this is serious, what if...he never comes back? " I smacked his arm.

"He'll come back. As far as I know, he's capable of sorting things out on his own, He is the team captain after all."

"I guess ." I shrugged.

Maybe he didn't care enough, but I did.
