Eli closes his eyes as soon as he hears the door shut.

"Hey!" I say in a cheery tone, but not much louder than a whisper.

His eyes remain closed as I place a small kiss on his forehead.

"We've missed you so damn much, big guy." Joel smiles down at him.

Then his eyes open slowly, as he squeezes my hand.

He looks at me for a long moment, as if seeking remembrance.

I help him sit up, and Joel places a pillow behind him.

"You, look oddly familiar." Eli finally whispers, mostly to himself.

My hair falls around my shoulders at the moment, and by now the dark blue streaks have long ago faded, returning it to its rich black color. I'm wearing a dark green high neck tank top, black jeans, and gladiator sandals.

"What about me?" Joel takes a seat, opposite from me.

"You too." Eli replies.

Then Joel takes a bag of gummy bears from his jacket.

"I'll give you some if you can guess my name." Joel holds up the bag, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Ummm...." Eli rubs the back of his neck.

"I'll give you a hint, I'm Mexican." Joel smirks.

"Umm...Chuy?"

"Nope. My name starts with a J."

"Jose?"

"Nope."

"Joaquin?"

"No. It ends with an l." Joel batts his eyelashes playfully.

"Ja...bali..?" Eli spells it out, a bit frustrated.

"Chico I'm Joel, aka your favorite person in the whole entire world." Joel winks, and passes Eli the gummy bears.

"My name also starts with a J." I smile awkwardly, It didn't occur to me to bring Eli something.

He covers his face with both hands, murmuring gibberish, as it appears to us.

"That psycho right there is Jade." Joel adds.

"I...just remembered my name a few days ago." Eli sighs.

Maybe reading him his favorite story will help bring back memories.

"That's alright. Would you like us to read to you? " Joel beats me to it, with the cutest of smiles.

Stahp. He doesn't even like you anymore.

"Yeah." Eli answers.

A few moments later Joel and I are sitting criss-cross-applesauce, with Eli between us, as Joel's voice grows husky whilst he reads aloud.

I lightly stroke Eli's head, meanwhile.

I can't help but think about what a good teacher he would be, he's so good with kids.

And the way his thick, long eyelashes move every time he blinks, so adorable.

I bet he'd be a great father if we ever had kids.

All of a sudden he lifts up his gaze, and he's caught me staring right at him, not the book.
