"Drama queen much?" I replied, not taking his words seriously.

"I mean it. You and Me," with his two hands he did the exact motion you do when snapping a branch in half," Are through."

I stared at him agape, not knowing if he really meant it or not. But I did know the lump starting to form in my throat shouldn't have been there.

"...but then again, it's not like we were ever really together, because I didn't mean a thing to you." He snapped coldly.

"Ay Dios mio," I sighed frustrated. "I'm just a girl to you, and you're just a guy to me. No more no less." I argued.

"No! that's where you're wrong. You're not just a girl to me." He raised his voice.

"Yes I am, I'm just one of your past times."

"Just because you're a hypocrite doesn't mean I'm like you, you know?!" The anger in his voice was starting to make me wonder if he'd meant every word he'd said.

"I'M NOT A HYPOCRITE!"

"Then look me in the eyes and tell you don't feel a thing whenever my lips and your lips work together in such an inexplicable sync!"

"I..." I choked out, "..Should go. Sorry for wasting your time." I stepped off his car and slammed the door behind me.

I was immediately greeted by the cold breeze outside, which reminded me I was still wearing his necklace.

I took it off and turned around and leaned into his car window.

"I almost forgot, here's your necklace. " I held it in the palm of my hand, holding it out to him. "Give it to someone who truly deserves it."

"No, keep it, along with my heart." He answered coldly, not looking me in the eyes, but at the steering wheel.

And with that, as soon as I took a step back, he drove out into the darkness, ahead. While I stood there, feeling like a fool, wondering what'd he'd really meant by that.

That night he didn't come home to sleep. I should know, because I stayed up all night, feeling like a creepy little stalker watching his window every few minutes. I wanted to believe all would be forgotten, come sunrise. That by next morning, all would be back to normal.

But Sunday came and still, there was no trace of him.

Not even a single text.

Nada.

By the time Monday morning arrived, I'd gathered enough courage to confront the woods and walk to school. That was the only shortcut to school, and it was pretty fugly and filled with hairy creatures that had sharp teeth and claws.

Before my getting-to-school-in-one-piece quest began though, for some reason, call it curiosity or doubt, I made sure to look outside the front of my house, where sure enough, Joel was inside his car waiting for me, like he did every morning.

I snuck out the back door, and almost fell in a muddy puddle in the middle of the woods by the time I decided to text Joel, feeling a little guilty.

To Papi: idk if you're waiting for me, but u should know I already left.

Papi: With whom?

Me: a human person

Papi: more specifically?

Me: a breathing organism ;)
