I woke up with a sudden jolt. My heart was pounding and I felt unusually breathless. I sat up rubbed my hand through my thick hair and looked around the room. I could not see anything. I turned on my lamp. My room looked completely the same. Clothes everywhere posters of Darth Vader on the wall. All of it was still there.

I laid back down and sighed. It was 1:00 in the morning and my first day of school was tomorrow (or today).

As I laid there I tried counting sheep but when it got to the 100's it stressed me out and I was even more awake.
'I might as well go downstairs and get some tea,' I thought to myself. So I hopped out of bed and tiptoed down the stair case.

Eric, my younger brother was downstairs too.

"What are you doing up at this time in the morning?" I asked him

"I couldn't sleep," he replied "and apparently neither could you," he said.

I ignored him as I made my tea. Whenever I got done making it was when I actually paid attention to him.
"What were you jabbering about while I was making my tea?" I asked in a very annoyed tone

"The zombie apocalypse dream I had," he said "weren't you paying attention?!"

"Of course I was.... Not" I said as I began drinking my hot tea.

"You never listen to what I say!" He said sadly

"I'm sorry, what were you saying?" I asked him between sips. My brother was so easy to irritate.

"Nothing!" He said in a frustrated tone.

"Exactly what I thought," I said smugly under my breath. "Why isn't mum up she would usually hear us up by now,"

"She's probably not up cause she doesn't hear us fighting," Eric said in a smarty voice.

"You are probably right," I said as I took another sip of tea. It was just the right temperature now. "Are you excited about school tomorrow?" I asked him.

"Not exactly," he said sadly, "we aren't gonna know anyone. We're gonna be weirdos again," he said. This was our third time moving. "I really miss Washington, Rachael," he said.

"So do I . There was so much stuff to do up there," I said as I was thinking back.

"Why did we have to move here?" He asked me.

"For the five hundredth time," I said in an annoyed voice (my brother was always asking me this question) "Mom's job requires her moving to different places! And wherever she goes we go!"
Eric just stared at me as if I was some type of a monster. I refused to look at him, so I became very interested in swirling my tea around the cup.
"Look, I am sorry," I said as I patted him on the shoulder gently, "these last few years have been rough on me too, ok? Ever since dad went away things just haven't been the same for me or for anyone else. And I have been losing sleep for the past three days! So I suggest we better go to bed,"

"Can I sleep with you,Rachael?" He asked me innocently.

"Fine I guess so," I said begrudgingly, "you better not hog the bed or I will somehow push you off!" I said trying to make him laugh.

When we got upstairs and in bed we began talking again.

"Where does mum work?" He asked me

"She works for," I paused for a second trying to think of the name of the company "She works for XzInk," I said.

"What do they do?" He asked me "that's a terrible name!" He said laughing

"I know I hate that name. I believe they...... You know, I honestly have no idea what they do," I said laughing

"Hmmm...." Eric said. I could tell he was trying to think of another question.

"No more questions!" I told him "I am sleepy. So save your questions for in the morning,"

"Can I finish my zombie dream?" He asked me

"Sure.. Nothing like a good ole zombie story to put you to sleep," I said sarcastically.

He began his story. By the time he got to "my brains were splattered on the pavement!" I was asleep.
