"I think you're in the clear Hayden, but come back tomorrow." Abel says and I roll my eyes. "Abe, we've been going on like this for two weeks already. I don't think I'm pregnant." I say and he raises an eyebrow. "Who's the doctor?" He asks and I huff. "You, obviously." I answer. He nods and turns to his computer. "Everything's going smoothly with your healing as well, though I do recommend that you take the medication I gave you." "I'm not taking anything. I'm naturally healing." I say defiantly. "So when it gets infected and you can't fight anymore, what are you going to do?" He questions and I look away, knowing he was right. "Go do something today with Chase. He's been off lately." He says and I look at him. "Bryce told me the same thing." I say. "I'll ask Chase if he wants to go for a run." I decide and Abel nods. "Be careful." He says and I roll my eyes, "When aren't I careful?" He groans and I laugh as I leave his office.

"Hayden! Get in!" Chase calls and I stay at the shore of the lake. "I'm fine here!" I call back and he swims back to shore. He hovers over me and I squeal, feeling him dripping water on me. "I'm tanning, not trying to get wet, Chase!" I exclaim and try to push him off, to no avail. He nuzzle his face into my neck, and I try to push him again. He nips my jaw and I freeze. He quickly pulls back and I stare into his beautiful green eyes. He bites his bottom lip and I grab him by the back of the neck. He leans in close as if to kiss me but I grab his SnapBack and take off running. "Hayden!" He yells and I turn around. "Give me back my hat, and no one gets hurt." He says lowly and I pop my hip out, and place my hand on it. "I don't know if I want to give it back to you." I say and slip it on. "Hayden. Give me back my hat." He says and I slowly back towards the water. I feel the water splashing at my calves and Chase slowly starts coming forward. For every step he takes forward, I take one back. The water is now lapping at my waist and is not even touching his. I go even deeper and his eyes watch my every move. I dunk and he quickly grabs his hat. I let myself sink and wait. As I expected, he dives and lifts me out. I slow my heart and I feel sand under me. "No, Hayden no. Please no." He pleads and shakes me. Hearing his tone, I wanted to wake up and tell him I was okay. But this was payback for ignoring me for almost a month. When I needed someone to talk to. Tess is busy fixing the room for the arrival of her daughters and Bryce is out being the Alpha of my Pack. Luke has been quieter and more absent just like Chase and it's been worrying me.

"Hayden, don't you leave yet. You aren't ready to see us." I hear a voice say. "Fiica, don't. You have a life ahead of you." I felt tears welling up in my eyes. "Dad? Fane?" I whisper. "Yes, now wake your ass up. I'm not going to let you come pester me just yet, Den." Fane laughs and I try to wake up from this haze again.
This time, I end up at the gazebo. "Hayden, come. We need to talk." The Sun God says urgently and he pulls me into the gazebo. "Look, stay as far away from Marcus as you can. Don't you dare leave that house. Something's happening tomorrow night, and you need to stay safe." He says and I don't even get to ask before I am thrown back into the real world and I start to splutter up water.
Water? I wasn't drowning.
I felt water keep going down my throat and nose.
I'm drowning! I'm drowning!
I try to fight my way to the light above me, but a force has an iron grip on my ankle and is pulling me down. I fight again.
This time I wake up on the sand. "You're awake. You're alive. You're okay." Chase says and holds me close. I wrap my arms around his neck and hug him, finding comfort in his arms. "I thought I lost you. I thought you died on me. I thought you were going to leave me." He whispers against my hair and I lay my head over his heart, listening to its steady beating. "I almost did. But they saved me. They made sure I didn't go." I say and he pulls back. "Who?" "My brother and father. They pushed me down to the real world. They said it wasn't my time yet." "It won't ever be your time. You don't deserve to leave." He says and I close my eyes, still shaking. "Calm down. I'm here. You're here. You're alive." He says and I keep my head over his heart.

"Come on. I thinks it's time to go home." He says and I notice the sun setting. "Let's stay and wait for it to set. I love the different colors." I say and he smiles. He sits down and places me between his legs. His arms wrap around me and I stare at the setting sun. He rests his chin on my shoulder and I lean my head against his. A low hum comes his chest and I giggle when I hear him make a purring sound. "What are you laughing at?" he asks me. "Did you just purr? 'Cause I didn't think wolves purred." "I didn't purr, I rumbled," Chase said with as much dignity as he could muster. "You rumbled? Seriously? Pray tell, what does that mean?" I ask him, trying hard not to laugh. "When wolves are content they often make a rumbling sound that comes from their chest, I guess you could say its equivalent to a cat's purr," he explained. "It's cute," was all I say in reply. "But I'm a wolf and I don't rumble." I say confused and he rubs his cheek against mine. "You purr like a little kitten." He presses a small kiss to my throat, making my breath catch. "I have an effect on you, don't I?" He asks and I nod quickly. He chuckles and I shiver. "Come on before my baby brothers come looking for you." He says and lifts me up. He sits me in the passenger side and makes sure I'm covered before climbing into the driver's side. He lays his hand on my thigh and I don't move it away. He traces circles with his finger and my muscles tense at the slow movement. "Do you want me to stop?" He asks and I look at him. I shake my head and he starts tracing circles again. I place my hand against the three long scars that lay across his ribcage. "D-did I do that?" I stutter and I look up at him. "Yes. When you were silver poisoned." He says and tears well up in my eyes. I look away and drop my hand. "I'm fine though. I don't remember that it happened either." He says and I shake my head. Tears streaming down my face, I look at him. "That's not the point. I did that to you! I hurt you. I caused you those scars that will last your lifetime. And I'll live with the knowledge that I was the cause of that." I sniffle and look down. "Hayden, look at me. Please." He says and tilts my head up by the chin with his index finger. "I went to help save you. You were going to kill Bryce in your haze, and I ran into you to stop you. I knew you couldn't live with the knowledge that you killed him." He says. "Because I know-I know that your wolves chose each other." He continues quietly. "Chase..." I start and he shakes his head. "It's not like I had a chance, did I?" He asks and this time I tilt his head up. "You always will. Like you said the day we were formally introduced, you got my heart already." I say and lean forward. I finally press my lips to his in a soft kiss.
