Addicted

His lips softly respond and he pulls me closer. I lean close and my hair brushes against his cheeks. His hands lay on my hips and I pull back, breaking the kiss. "We need to cool it." I say breathlessly and he leans his forehead against mine. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you I fell in love with your kiss, would you?" He asks and I giggle. "Not really." I answer and he chuckles. I stare into his bright green eyes and he leans in close again. "No!" I squeal and sit back. He chuckles and starts the car.

I get out the car and grab my bag from the back. Chase stalks towards me and I run into the house. I find Luke and Bryce sitting together and whispering frantically. "Hayden." Bryce says and I dip my head to him. "Alpha." I say respectfully and Luke stands up, his chair falling to the ground. "What did you do Bryce?" He growls at his twin. "It was an accident. And I didn't say I didn't want it." He answers and Luke snarls. "You better give it back. This pack is hers by birth. You took it by accident? That doesn't fly with me, Bryce. Go outside right now, call the pack, and give the pack back to Hayden." Luke commands and Bryce looks down. "She's their rightful Alpha, Bryce. You'll always have Melbourne to rule." Chase speaks up and Luke nods. "Fine! I'll do it!" Bryce yells and marches outside. "Dark Moon Pack! Come Please!" Bryce's voice rings and they make a circle once again. "I've called you today to make an announcement." He says and opens his hand to me. "I am giving the pack back to Hayden. It is hers by birth, and I took it from her without a fair fight." He says. "What do you mean without a fair fight?" Andrei asks and Bryce looks down. "When she was silver poisoned. Things happened." He simply says and whispering starts. I catch my name and things I don't wish to repeat. "Hayden is your Queen and Alpha. If I hear anyone call her anything, God so help me." Bryce snarls and I give him a look. "Andrei will be my Beta. Dawson my Third. Garrett my Fourth." I say and he smiles at me. I return it and he kneels down. Dawson follows then Andrei. Soon everyone is kneeled down and I too, bow down. "We are all equal here but I am Alpha. But I won't use my powers wrongly, I promise you that." I say and remember what the Sun God told me. "Now I suggest we all go to our homes and spend the evening with friends and family, those you hold close to your heart." I smile and quickly go into the house.

Alastair is sitting in the study reading The Art of War. "Hayden, I'm glad you're back to leading. The pack needs you more now that ever." He says and closes the door behind me. "Come I must tell you something that no one can know about." He says and pulls a book from the bookshelf. The shelf moves and I stare at it. Alastair grips my hand in his and leads me in. We go down a set of stairs and I shiver. "You're fine. The Order built this when news of your mother's death and your disappearance came out. We built this tunnel for anyone to escape when under attack." He halts at the bottom of the stairs and points at the four different tunnels. "The last one on the right is to escape out of the territory. The first one on the left takes you to the Order. The second one takes you to the Enforcer Building. The third takes you to the Room." He says, pointing to each one. "We need to go out to the Ridge. And now." He says and we run down the last tunnel.

"Look, Marcus is planning to murder you and the Evans Brothers tonight. I know you already got the message, but believe me. He's collecting conspirators among your own pack. I suggest you take everyone in that house and run. I would tell you to fight back, but he's been training daily with them and they all much larger than all of you. Tess is pregnant, it would be wise to take her somewhere safe and lay low until I say it's safe to return. Andrei and June are playing as conspirators and are keeping me up to date with their trainings." He says and I stare at him. "I think Marcus hired those humans to try and kill you. They only shot at you and no one else. Marcus failed in killing you that way so he's doing it his way. And I fear he could do it." He continues. "Are you doubting my abilities?" I ask, more harshly than I wanted. "No. I'm doubting them. I doubt they could protect you." He answers and I look out at the horizon. "Luke's been protecting me from myself. Bryce saved me silver poisoning. Chase is making sure I don't kill anyone. They've been doing perfectly fine in my opinion." I reply and he nods, "But they aren't trained in combat like you are. Yes, their pack is located where they need survival skills but they never needed to know how to fight. Their pack has been in one battle and that was years before Chase was born." He continues, "Come on. We need to get them and take them out of here." He says and we go back down the tunnel and up the stairs.

"Tess! Dawson!" I call and find them cuddling and watching Beauty and The Beast in the movie room. "You need to pack now and fast." I say and they look at me like I'm crazy. "Just do it, please!" I plead and Dawson nods. He runs upstairs and I hear their door open. "I'll tell the Brothers." Alastair says and he runs upstairs. "What's going on Hayden? You never smell or look this scared." Tess says and I sit down beside her. "Marcus wants to kill me, Tess. He wants me dead, just like Nick." I cry and bury my head in her shoulder. "Alastair says we all should leave and he'll tell us when to return." I say and she nods slowly. "I have all my credit cards so we can stay anywhere or rent out a house. Whatever it takes to be safe and keep you safe." I say and she smiles weakly. "Hayden! Why the fuck do we have to pack?!" Chase yells and I groan then stand at the base of the stairs. "Do you want me dead?" I ask lowly and his face morphs into fear. "Just go please. I'll buy new things when we need them." I say and go upstairs and barely pack anything. Just the essentials. I go back downstairs and see Dawson and Tess had two backpacks. Bryce, Luke, and Chase come with a small bag each. "Hurry to the study before he comes." Alastair whispers and leads us. He opens the shelf and pushes us in. "Hayden! It's Marcus! I need to discuss something with you!" I hear Marcus yell from outside and I freeze. "Go! Hurry!" Alastair whispers and I hug him once before he closes it shut. "Follow me." I say and take off at a quick sprint.

"Come on, I went this way earlier." I say and lead them down the last tunnel. "I need a quick break." Tess says and I jerk to a stop. She had her hands on her knees and Dawson lifts her up. "Lead the way, Hayden." He says and I go at a quick walk, which was almost a jog. We pass the way out to the Ridge and I lead us further. A large white dot at the end makes me almost run. I find another exit and push it slightly. "We're at the border. I think a little further and we'll be good." I say after I close it. "Let's get the hell out of here." Chase grumbles and I find one last exit. I open it and find us near the road. "Alastair left us a car out here. Just need to locate it." I say and we stay low.
I find my favorite '67 Impala hidden in the forest and I smile. "We'll be good in here." I say and we pile in. Our stuff is placed in the trunk and we struggle to fit. "Bryce, sit on Luke's lap." Chase barks and I tap my fingers on my knees. Chase decided to drive most of the way then Dawson then me then Luke and finally Bryce. We needed to get as far away as we can. Luke wanted to go to Australia but Chase said no. Tess suggested going to California, but we would need to go to a forested part of the state.
So we now decided we would travel from California and continue going North until we hit the Canadian border. "We'll stop every 100 miles at a gas station and stop at a hotel for the night." Chase says and we all agree. I settle against the leather seats and stare out at the trees that fly past us. I see that Tess had fallen asleep on Dawson's chest and he with his head leaned on hers. Luke and Bryce were knocked out on each other and Luke had drool coming out of the corner of his mouth. It drips on Bryce's head and Bryce turns his head away and sleepily pushes Luke's head away. I hold back my laugh and turn back around. "Hayden, we have to talk. About earlier." Chase says lowly to not wake the others up. "What about it?" I ask. "Today, when Bryce gave you back the pack, he mentioned that something happened between the two of you when you were poisoned by silver." I was dreading the conversation. One thought stuck in my mind now, Would Chase reject me? "Something did happen, but nothing major. I promise." I say, trying to avoid looking at his face. "What exactly happened, Hayden?" He asks and I look out at the trees. "Our wolves... they mated. We had no control over them. It happened on its own." I say rushed and his face goes stoic. "Did you get pregnant?" He asks, his eyes and tone are full of rage. "No." I simply answer, but guilt is eating at me. "Good, but is that why you lost your position to him?" I just nod and he slowly bobs his head. "Do you want to be with him?" He asks and I look down at my shoes. "I don't know, Chase. I'm drawn to your wild recklessness. You like to have fun. But I'm also drawn to Luke's protectiveness. My wolf is drawn to Bryce, and I'm slowly getting close to him. But I can't love. I probably won't ever again." I answer sadly and hot tears prick the back of my eyes. "Hayden, look at me." He says and his hand gently turns my head. "Don't cry, please don't cry." He pleads and wipes off my tears with the pad of his thumb. "You can and you will. Someone will make you love again, I promise you that."
