I wake up to something licking my nose. I open my eyes and see Ayka's wagging tail. She woofs and turns in a circle. "I'm up." I say when Nanook gently pulls my foot, trying to take me out of bed. I look to my side and see Luke gone. Nanook barks and I sit on the edge of my bed. I slip on my Nike sandals and Nanook pushes me to the door. "I'm going. I'm going." I say and open the door. They race down the hall and I sleepily follow after them. I walk into the kitchen and look for their bowls. "The shed." I say and open the side door that led outside. I open the shed and look around for where they would be located. I open the cabinet opposite the harnesses and Nanook howls. I find six bowls with their names scrawled out in the color of their collars. Two blue, red, and tan. I place them all out on the ground and turn, finding a big bag of Blue dog food. I grab each bowl and fill it to the brim with food and whistle. I hear doors opening and the dogs run into the shed. They sit in order and one by one, I place their bowls in front of them. They dig in and I watch them to make sure no fights occur.
Timber growls at Kodiak and he responds to it by growling back. I growl and they stop then I see Aiko and Ayka doing just fine. They finish and run outside. I shake my head and jog after them. They run towards the tree line and I whistle. "Only in our land." I tell them and they run off again. I go inside and see Luke sitting at the island. "Thanks for waking us up." He murmurs and I sit beside him. "The dogs were hungry. I wouldn't let them starve." I say and rub his shoulder. "I'm sorry I woke you up. Forgive me?" I ask and give him the puppy dog eyes. "God you'll be the death of me one day." He groans and I hug him. I pull back from him when I hear a door open. Bryce comes out already dressed in black jeans, a tank top, SnapBack, and combat boots. "Morning Bryce." I smile and he smiles back. "Jaidon, have you seen my hat?" I hear Chase yell and Bryce's face hardens in anger. Chase walks in and sees my confused face and Bryce's angered one. "She heard." He growls and Chase looks at me. "Who are you guys?" I ask and back up against the counter. "Bryce is his middle name. Jaidon is his first name." Luke says and Bryce nods. "I was being hunted down so I went by my middle name. No one knows it." He says and I start shaking. "We're on the run, okay? We used our middle names to hide us." Chase says and I look at Luke. "Is Luke your real name?" I ask harshly. "Yes. It is." He says calmly and I know at least one isn't lying to me. "I'm Brandon and this is Jaidon." Chase says and I stare down at the ground. "I'm sorry Hayden. But we weren't going to get our parents killed." Jaidon says and I look up. "Marcus?" I whisper and he nods. "Alastair needs to end him." I growl and they nod.
I hear the doorbell ring and I raise an eyebrow at them. "We didn't invite anyone." Brandon says and I walk to the door. I open it and a couple is standing there. The man appears to be in his early 60's and the woman looks to be in her early 50's. "Hi, are Brandon, Jaidon, or Luke Evans around?" She asks politely and I look at them suspiciously. "Who's asking?" I reply. "It doesn't fucking matter. Now, where are they?" The man snaps and I keep down my growl. "Dad?" Luke says, his voice confused. "Luke." The man smiles and the woman pushes him to the side and embraces Luke. "My baby boy!" She exclaims and holds him tightly. "Mom, that's Jaidon. Not me." Luke says though he hugs her back just as tight. "Come in." I invite and they step in. I hear nails clicking on the flooring and I turn around, seeing Kodiak and Timber standing and staring at Luke's parents. I walk to them and grab them by the collar. Kodiak rubs his head up against my side and Timber mimics him on the other side. "Go outside, you two." I say and they walk out together. "Let me get dressed quickly." I say and Luke's mother smiles while his father grabs Luke and pulls him away. Something in me hates the way he looks at me as they talk and it takes a lot for me not to go back and kill him.
I shower and put on a wine red crochet dress and paid it with my favorite black heels. I straighten my hair and do makeup then adjust the back velvet choker at my neck. I arrange my hair to lay over my shoulders and I return to the living room. "Would you like breakfast?" I ask politely and Luke's mother smiles. "No, thank you." His father growls and I accidentally let my power out. His head snaps up and he stares me down. I simply blink when he pushes his power against mine. "Who is she Luke?" He growls and stares at me. "She's the Queen of the North, Hayden Lupei." Jaidon answers and their parents look at me. "I'm Monroe Evans, Alpha Female of the Australian Pack." Their mother says and bows her head. "This is Chandler, my mate." She says and I respectfully dip my head. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you both as I didn't see you at my coronation. But I do pray my invitation reached you in time." I say and Monroe nods. "We couldn't go, I apologize. Luke was going through a hard time and we couldn't force him." She says and I nod. "Kathryn's death." I say softly and her eyes widen. "I told her, Mom." He says and I nod. "Why Luke? She's an outsider. She's not one of us." Chandler says and the twins growl at him. "She is one of us." They say. "And she's part of me." Jaidon says and I close my eyes, dropping my head. "Of all of us." Brandon pipes up and I avoid looking at them. "What did you mean Jaidon?" Chandler demands and Jaidon avoids his eyes. "Our wolves. They've mated." He says and my breathing quickens. "What!" Luke growls and he turns to me. "It's not true, tell me it's not true." He pleads and I look up at him teary eyed. "Once. When I was silver poisoned." I say softly and he backs up from me. "Luke." I say, my voice pleading. "No. Leave me alone." He says and I feel hot tears sliding down my face. He runs out the door and I go after him. Once he hits the forest line, I stop.
If you love something, let it go. If it returns, it's yours; if it doesn't, it wasn't.
If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were.
That stupid quote rings in my head as I watch him run off. I didn't want to admit it, but I'm starting to fall for Luke Evans. But I should let him go.
Luke's P. O. VI shifted and ran.
This couldn't be happening again. I lost someone to my brothers again. I know something happened between the three of them and I hated it. Now I know they mated and that's why they've been so awkward around each other. Something happened between her and Beau, but I just can't put my finger on it.I keep running until I find a secluded place in the forest. I lay in the shadows and rest my head down on my paws. My fur keeps me well hidden and I resist jumping up when I hear Hayden calling my name. I narrow my eyes so they don't show brightly if she does come this way. My eyes look into the trees and no one comes. Except for a pair of glacial blue eyes. My hackles rise and I stay silent. A light cream wolf a few inches smaller than me steps out and looks around. It's head turns to where I heard Hayden. It's eyes brighten and I decide to follow it. The wolf takes off at a run and it starts to register in my mind that it planned on finding Hayden. I trail a foot behind and watch as it runs without care.
Must be a pup.
Soon I smell Hayden and so does the wolf. It runs faster and I see her in the distance. The wolf's eyes sparkle the moment it's eyes find her. I keep my low growl from being heard and I come closer. Hayden looks around and her eyes land on the wolf. She drops down to its eye level and it rubs its face against hers. Right away I knew it was a shifter. I stay back though it took me a lot of self restraint to do it. She looks at it then recognition shows in her eyes. "Liam?" She asks and the wolf barks. "What are you doing here?" She demands, backing up. It shifts back to reveal a tall, white haired boy with glacial blue eyes. "I told you. At 18, I was coming for you." He says and she laughs. "We're not mates, Liam but thanks for coming." She says so coldly, I know now why she is called the Ice Queen. "No. We are. I can feel it." He tries to touch her and she backs away. "Don't touch me, Liam. Please." She says and shivers. "But Hayden..." He starts and she shakes her head. "I'm sorry Liam. I truly am, but my heart belongs to another. Even if I can't feel anything." She says and my head raises. "Who? I'll fight him for you." The kid says and I almost die of laughter. "He's an Alpha. Not a Royal, but Alpha." She says and my head drops again. "No Hayden. You're not getting away from me this time." He growls and he pulls her to him. She struggles in his grasp and he snarls. "I'm not letting you go." He growls and my sight turns into a haze of red. Jealousy and anger courses through my body and I leap out of the trees, launching at the kid.
