It's been three days and now we were hiding in the forest near the compound back home.
I didn't tell anyone why we returned and they didn't question me. I had contacted Alastair a day before and he said he'd help us back in.
The Evans Alphas decided to come with us in case a fight broke out. Chandler said although he didn't like me, he'd stand at my side. Monroe apologized about what he said but I didn't mind it.
"Hayden." I hear a voice call and I look up. Alastair was waiting at the escape tunnel exit. "Alastair." I say relieved and wave everyone over. "Hurry. Someone alerted Marcus of your presence here." He says and Jai snickers. "No one told him. He felt it." He says and everyone nods. "Well whatever it was, who cares. Now hurry, before an Enforcer comes." He says and Jai goes first. I knew he was trying to protect me from any danger and I loved this protective side of him. Luke follows then Beau. Tess and Dawson follow then Monroe and Chandler. Alastair and I go down together and we head off at a quick pace. "Marcus made up that you all were killed in an accident on the far border by rogues. So as of now to the pack, you're considered dead." He tells us once we reach the stairs. "You'll be staying out at the abandoned Enforcer cabins in the mountains." He says and Luke gives me a small look. "Well let's go." I say and he takes us down a tunnel.
I stay in the back of the group, letting Alastair lead them. I feel a hand on the small of my back and I lean into it. "How you holding up?" Beau whispers and I shrug. "I'm kinda pissed. Marcus has been trying to control everyone's lives and it's time it ends." I say and he looks down at me. "I understand, but I don't want you getting hurt either." He says and my eyebrows furrow in confusion. "How would I get hurt?" "This is Marcus we're talking about." He says and I sigh. "Yeah, I know."
"Hayden, I need to ask you something." Alastair says as we get settled into the cabins. "Yeah?" I reply and turn around. "Do you remember anything about the night you and your mother ran from the attacks?" He asks and I look at him in confusion. "Parts. Why?" I say. "This is the only way I can prove my theory." He answers. "I just remember a silver wolf with dark amber eyes." I say and he nods. "Come on. You need to testify." He growls and I don't follow. "Can I bring my mates along?" I ask and he sighs. "One. Five of us would pose a threat." He says and I see Jai talking with Dawson. He looks up and smiles. I motion him over with my head and he nods at Dawson then comes to us. "What's up?" He asks when he notices how tense Alastair is. "Come on. We're getting even with Marcus." He says and we shift. He leads us down the slope towards the compound hidden among the pines.
"Keep your heads down." Alastair says and we nod. It didn't really matter since it was night, but we still obeyed him. Jai grabs my hand in his and he keeps me against his side. Alastair nudges me and I look up slightly. I could see Andrei and June in tears. "Why are they crying?" I whisper. "It's your funeral." He says and I still. Marcus was in front with the most fake look of sadness in his eyes. "The Queen will be dearly missed." He finally says and he wipes his eyes as if he was going to cry.
"But she's still here." I growl loudly and the crowd parts. June runs to me and she holds me in a hug. Andrei hugs us both to him and he quickly moves when he hears a low growl. Marcus's eyes bulge out of his head when I step in the center of the circle. Alastair comes beside me and when Marcus looks at him, pure hatred is shown. "You." Marcus snarls with so much venom in his voice I flinch. "You've caused too much pain and loss for this pack, Marcus. It's time the problem is removed." He growls and Marcus shifts. Alastair does to and I see his blind eyes reflect the moonlight. Marcus's fur absorbs the light, and his eyes are dark orbs that blend into his dark fur. Alastair's fur stands up and his jaws open in a snarl. Jai holds me as I watch them circle each other.
They look like yin and yang. The light and the darkness.
Yeah, and Marcus fits that picture perfectly.
I watch as they clash, light against darkness. Life against death. Alastair's jaws snap inches from Marcus's throat and Marcus misses Alastair's body. Alastair pins Marcus down and he thrashes around beneath him. Alastair stays firm, but he misses Marcus's paws. He kicks him off and his back slams against a tree. I notice a piece of wood protruding from his chest and I shift, even though Jai tries to keep me from doing so. I run to Alastair and I pull the wood out and a stream of blood follows. I lower down and be bites my shoulder.
Thank you, now go.
He pushes me away gently with his muzzle and I see Jai, who was also shifted. I stand beside him and we turn to the fight. Alastair was fighting stronger against Marcus, but I could tell Marcus was waiting. Whenever Alastair would attack, Marcus would simply snap at his paws. I realize then that he was trying to find his weak spot to end him. I bark and Alastair's eye turns to me.
He's trying to find your weak spot.
I know. But I found his first.
Alastair slides under Marcus and his jaws clamp on his neck. I see dark blood fall like rain onto the white flower petals. Alastair stands up, his entire face coated with blood. He looks around and the pack lowers their eyes. Marcus lay on the ground, his dark lifeless eyes staring up at the half moon. Alastair shifts back and he clears his throat. "As of tonight, I decree that any who pleases shall have more than one mate at a time if they so choose to. I also decree that all who were forced into an arranged mating may back out. Just come to the Queen and I, and we will discuss the terms." He says and I nod my head. "Long live the Lupeis." He finally says and I stay still. Jai nuzzles my neck and he gently pushes me towards the direction of the cabins.
Come on. Let's go home.
I knew what he meant. He thought of our group as our pack. He thought of us as the Alpha pair. But he was poorly mistaken.
