It's Finally Peaceful... Or So We Thought

"Nanook, stop it!" I snap and she sits on the ground. "If Kodiak doesn't want to play, what makes you think Timber wants to?" I ask her like a parent would ask a child. She yips and jumps around. I laugh and ruffle the fur behind her ears. I feel hands wrap around my waist from behind and a head nuzzles the side of my neck. "How is my beautiful mate today?" Luke asks as he kisses my cheek. "Great. And you, my handsome mate?" I ask, going along with his playfulness. "I thought I was your devilishly handsome mate?" Jai whines as he comes from the kitchen. "You are. Luke is my dashing Prince Charming." I say, and Luke smirks at his younger brother. "And I'm the knight in shining armor who swoops in and saves the princess from the terrible prince." Jai grins and I shake my head, a small laugh coming from my lips. Luke's eyes narrow and he growls. "Oh quit it." I say, playfully swatting at his head. He nips at my neck and I bite back at him. Jai takes me out of Luke's grasp and gently kisses my neck where they would mark me. I smile softly, but I still feel incomplete.

I know I was missing a part of me that I couldn't place my finger on. I feel my broken heart getting pieced back with Luke and Jai, but I still feel as if I'm missing someone.

Tess thinks I'm missing Beau, but Dawson thinks it's someone else entirely. I don't know, but I pray it's neither one.

Beau had left us a week after I asked them the question. It scared me, because, well, it made me feel as if he never loved or cared about me. I haven't told Jai or Luke about a thing about it, but I think they can feel it. Still, they won't bring it up. And I was grateful.

"June and Andrei are coming later today." Jai says as we cuddle and watch The Vow. I swear, that movie always brought tears to my eyes. "Don't cry yet." He says and I wipe my face. True enough, my fingers came back wet. "I can't help it. It's so sad how she doesn't love him anymore." I say and my voice cracks slightly. "Jai, what'd you do to make her cry?" Luke asks the moment he notices my teary eyes. "It's the movie, not me!" Jai says defensively and Luke kneels down in front of me. "Babe, it's just a movie." He says and I shake my head slightly. "It reminds me of myself too much." I say and he stills. He holds my hands in his and I tremble slightly. I hear Jai pause the movie then his hands are rubbing my back. "Tell us Hayden. Something's been bothering you for a while." Luke says and I bite my lower lip. "Imstillincomplete." I say rushed and they look at each other then me. "What?" They ask as the same time and I chew on my lip. "I still feel incomplete. Not that I'm empty with you. You've both filled in most of the brokenness. But I still feel like I'm missing something." I explain and Luke kisses my forehead. "Then my idiot of a brother needs to come back." He says and Jai gives him a look. "He can't accept her. You know Lila has a hold on him." Jai says and I look at them. "Lila?"
"Lila Morelli. The witch that cursed Beau." Jai answers and I go silent. "He left to find her so he can be with you Hayden. That's why he's been gone for the last few weeks." Luke says and it dawns on me. I stay silent and Jai puts on Pet Sematary.
At the part where Gage kills Jud Crandall, I jump onto Jai's lap. I curl myself into his chest and his arms curl around me. I cover my eyes and I feel Jai kiss my temple. I look up when Luke runs into the room. I instantly tense and sit up when I smell the alarm in his scent. "Luke, what's wrong?" I ask and he stares at his phone then looks at us. "I got a call from the Druid Pack. Their heir, Corey Greene, is dead." He says and I jump up. "Did you say Corey Greene?" My voice squeaks. He nods. "They invited us to the funeral next week." He says and I try to breathe properly. "Hayden, are you okay?" Jai asks and he comes closer. "I'm fi-" I start then drop to the ground.

I wake to the feeling of a hand caressing my cheek. I blink and look up at Luke and Jai. "Andrei and June are downstairs." Luke smiles gently and my door opens. June runs in with Andrei right behind. "Oh my sweet girl." June says and she runs her hands over my hair. Andrei sits beside June and I. Jai and Luke move away.
We're going to the living room. Call us if you need us.
I know Luke.
He smiles once and they go. "Did you hear what happened?" June asks and I blink. "The poor kid. He was barely 22." Andrei says and I feel my chest tighten. "I knew him." I say softly and they look at me with shock and curiosity in their eyes. "We were once in the thoughts that we were mates. Then Costin found me, and now I'm here." I say and June gives me a smile. "The Alpha had said that all who are close enough have to go." She says and I lower my eyes. Sounded like James. "Did you hear if the ThunderBlood Pack was going?" I ask. "Yes. The Alpha Ricky was very close to the Greene family. A shame his daughter died." She says and I freeze. "What?" My voice cracks. "His daughter, Hayden Queen. She was found murdered in the house of her guardian. They said it was a rogue attack." She tells me and I reach for my phone. I pull up Adrianna's number and dial. It rings three times and she answers.
"Hello?" She asks tentatively.
"Why the hell is Ricky saying I was murdered?"
