UNEDITED
Tyler's POV
I grumbled slightly under my breath as I walked down the stairs. My mom was making me go out and get the mail, but I was right in the middle of recording a song. Her yelling ruined the recording so I'd have to start all over, the struggles of not having professional equipment or editing software. Needless to say, I was frustrated right now.
I squinted at the bright sunlight as I opened the front door and made my way down our driveway. I cringed at the squeaking noise our mailbox made as I opened it to extract out mail for today.
I tried to close it, but it just popped back open. I tried again and got the same result. With a huff I slammed it closed as hard as I could, and this time it stayed closed. Way to go Tyler, take out your anger on your mailbox.
Just as I was about to start walking back up to the house, a car pulled up my street and stopped at the house next to mine. I guess our new neighbors were here. I wasn't too upset about the previous family leaving. There was a girl around my age who liked me a little too much.
Her room was across from mine and she'd always try to peak in my window, or she'd try that thing from the Taylor Swift music video and write messages to me on a giant notepad.
I felt bad for her because I know she just wanted a friend, but she took things too far. She'd constantly follow me around and ask really personal and invasive questions. I tried to hang out with her for awhile, but she just became too much.
Proven by the fact that I'm currently holding a letter from her in my hand, and she's only been gone a week. It is a relief for me that Jenna Black now lives in New Jersey.
I turned my attention back to my new neighbors. I saw the back-passenger side door burst open and a boy around my age tried to jump out of the car. The only problem was he forgot to un-do his seat belt.
Adorable.
I could hear the choking sound he made from all the way over here. He unlatched the seat belt and this time successfully managed to jump out of his car and throw himself down face-first in the front yard.
"Freedom, sweet, sweet freedom I missed you!" He shouted as fist-pumped the air. When he had landed he'd knocked off his snapback, revealing a head full of faded pink hair that was sticking up all over the place.
I couldn't help it, I started laughing. He was just too adorable! I saw his head snap over in my direction and he looked right at me.
I could see the blush on his face from here and that just made me laugh a little bit more. Yes, I felt kind of bad because I know he's probably embarrassed right now, but I can't help it!
He dropped his head down into the top of his hat. I decided to do him a favor and go back inside the house. I was still laughing as I walked back up the driveway.
I dropped the mail onto the kitchen counter and ran back up to my room, taking the stairs two at a time. Since the weather was nice I had my windows open, and I could hear the new family talking outside.
"First let me take Jenna inside and get her stuff set up-" I didn't hear the rest of his sentence because I immediately shot out of my chair and over to the window.
I know it was ridiculous the think that it would be Jenna Black, but I wouldn't put it past her to pull a stunt like that. One time I opened the shower curtain and she was sitting right there on my sink waiting on me. Now that I think about it, she did that several times...I probably should've gotten a restraining order on her...
I breathed out a sigh of relief as I saw the pink-haired boy pull a cat carrier out of the car and make his way inside his new house. Jenna was a cat. I could deal with a cat.
Throughout the day I could hear bits and pieces of the family's conversations, and a gathered that the pink-haired boy's name is Josh. I smiled; I think I'll like Josh.
(Bonus within a bonus because I'm just that awesome. Here's a bit from chapter 3)
I was shaken from my sleep around two in the morning. I groaned in annoyance, I normally have trouble falling asleep before two or three in the morning, and tonight was one of the rare occurrences where I could fall asleep around midnight. So much for that.
I rolled over to go back asleep, when I heard the sound of something hitting the sliding glass door on my balcony. I heard a meow. What? I don't have a cat...but Josh does.
I heard clattering noises outside and a few more meows, so I decided to get up and see what the heck was going on out there. I rolled out of my bed, pulled on a shirt, and opened the door.
There, standing on a ladder propped against my balcony rails, was a shirtless Josh with wide eyes. A white cat jumped off of the railing and starting weaving in and out of my legs, but I was too focused on Josh to pay much attention.
"Uh...salutations." He finally got out, the same panicked look was still on his face.
"What does that mean?" I asked, cringing at the way my voice sounded. I never liked how it did after I first woke up.
"Uh, um, it means...it means hello." He spluttered out. His face was steadily growing more and more flush with embarrassment. Do I really make him that uncomfortable?
"Oh. It kind of makes me want crackers." I said as I leaned down to pick up the cat who was still rubbing all over me. I think Jenna is a fitting name for her.
Would it come across as creepy if I already know his cat's name? It might...I'll just pretend like I don't know it! There, problem solved.
"I assume you're here to get, uh, Jenna?" I asked
"Ha, yeah you would assume correctly. Stupid cat, heh." I could tell he was felling awkward by the forced laughs he was letting out and the way he scratched the back of his neck and refused to look me in the eyes.
I guess I better let him go since he feels so uncomfortable. I gave him what I hope was a welcoming smile and handed him the cat.
I turned to go back into my room, but paused at the doorframe.
"Put the ladder back when you're done. I'll see you later, yeah?" I asked the last bit hopefully. I've decided it's my mission to make Josh feel more comfortable around me. He's just so adorable and awkward, I wanted to get to know him more.
After the incident earlier today where I saw him dancing wildly in his front yard, I knew I was hooked on him. I wanted to learn everything I could about this boy who seems to still have a child-like innocence and wonder about him. I could use some more light and positivity in my life, let's be honest.
Josh mutely nodded his head, so I gave another small smile before going inside, shutting the door, and drawing my curtains shut. I heard the clatter of him going down the ladder. I looked out the side window and I saw him run across our yards, Jenna tucked safely under his arm.
Pulling my shirt over my head, I tossed it on my desk before climbing back under my blankets. I snuggled in and let out a deep breath. I just had a hot, shirtless boy at my window in the middle of the night. It's like some cheesy romance novel. I don't really mind though, I could use a bit of romance I think.
I like my new neighbor, now I just have to make him like me back. I fell into a deep sleep with a big smile on my face.
A/N- I missed writing for awkward Josh :') anyways, I hope you guys like this!! I so so so appreciate the 10K views on this, like that is absolutely MIND BLOWING to me. I thought it'd take me at least a year to get to this point if not more. But it's been maybe 4 months? I don't remeber when I first started this. Any ways, I love you all so much and really appreciate all of your votes, feedback, and support with this story and following me along to my other stories. I hope this was a good enough gift, I wish I could give ya'll more but alas, I am broke.
