Tyler's POV
My alarm on my phone went off signaling it was time to get up for school. I quickly turned it off hoping it didn't wake up Josh; sadly he was so exhausted that it didn't. It didn't take much self-convincing for me to decide to skip school today and take care of Josh instead.
I eased out of the bed so I wouldn't wake him up and pulled the blanket back over him. I could see all the bruises on his back and arms, but I couldn't see how bad the one on his face had gotten.
Hopping in the shower, I quickly washed my hair before drying off and changing into a fresh set of clothes that I had brought over the night before.
I went down stairs and thought about just turning on the TV and waiting until Josh wakes up, but then a different idea popped into my head. I'm going to make Josh breakfast instead!
I dug through his cupboards and found the stuff to make pancakes and scrambled eggs. I got to work mixing up the pancake batter and hoped I didn't forget anything. I haven't made pancakes in awhile, so hopefully this will go ok.
I accidentally completely murdered the first pancake, but the ones after that came out pretty well. I stacked the finished pancakes on a plate and set them n the kitchen table which I had set earlier. As I was beating the eggs I heard the water start running upstairs, Josh must be up now. I poured the eggs into the hot pan and started pushing them around with a wooden spoon as they cooked.
I didn't hear Josh come down stairs over the sound of the eggs, so when he spoke it made me jump and flick some of the eggs out onto the stove.
"It smells good in here," he commented.
"Thank you. How do you feel?" I asked as I got the spilled egg off the stove and dumped it into the trashcan next to me. I had pulled it out when I was cracking the eggs.
"Sore, but nothing I can't handle," Josh answered.
I nodded my head in response as I dumped the finished eggs into a bowl and set the dirty pan in the sink. I turned around to face Josh, my jaw dropped, and I almost dropped the eggs on the floor.
The bruise on his face and the ones that covered his stomach were way worse than I thought. The ones on his back were various shades of brown and yellow, but the ones on his stomach and chest were dark blues and purples.
"Holy crap, Josh that looks so bad; are you sure you're ok? Do you need anything?" I asked, instantly going into a mothering mode. I was going to take care of Josh today, no matter what he needs me to do. He didn't deserve getting beat up that bad. No one does.
"Well, now that you mention it, I am kinda hungry." Josh said with a lopsided grin.
"I think I can help with that," I responded with a roll of my eyes. I swear all he ever thinks about is food and his cat.
We sat down at the table and began to eat, the food turned out pretty good which made me happy. After a brief quarrel about whether syrup and eggs go together, we agreed to go out to lunch later today and walk around the park.
After we were done eating and everything had been cleared away, we went into the living room and watched The Lion King which Josh told me was his favorite movie as kid. When Mufasa died, I saw his eyes tear up a bit which I thought was adorable, but I didn't say anything to him about it.
After the movie we played around with music a little bit before we both decided we were hungry enough to go out and get lunch.
When we reached the little café, I told Josh to go sit down and rest after asking him what he wanted to eat. While I was standing by the counter waiting on the food, I would glance over at Josh.
He was just sitting there idly tapping his fingers on the table. I smiled at how cute he looked today, but frowned when he turned his head slightly and I caught a glimpse of the bruise that was currently adorning his cheek. They called my name when the food was ready, so I grabbed it and started heading over to Josh, but almost stopped in my tracks at what I heard.
"Will you stop that damn tapping! It's disruptive, some of us are trying to relax!" It was an old lady sitting at the table across the aisle from ours.
My blood boiled and I saw red. No one talks to Josh that way, not today.
"Hey!" I called out before Josh could stutter out a response. I set the food on the table before turning to face the old woman with a glare.
"You know what will help you relax ma'am? Taking that giant stick out of your ass and being a decent human being for awhile. Mind your own business." I have no idea where that came from, but I was glad I said it.
"That is no way to respect your elders' young man! Back in my day-"
I cut her off.
"Back when they invented the wheel? Listen, I'm trying to have a nice date here, and he's been through enough crap already, or did you not see the gigantic bruise on his face? Now take your negative attitude and please leave."
The woman let out an indigent huff before gathering her stuff and moving to another table. With a grin, I grabbed out empty cups and went to go get drinks. When I got back to the table, Josh just kept staring at me with his mouth agape and his eyes wide.
"What?" I questioned.
"What do you mean 'what'? What was that? That's so unlike you! I mean it was fantastic and thank you for standing up to her, but...what?"
I let out a chuckle as I picked up my sandwich and stared at it in thought.
"I don't really know what that was. I just feel very protective of you right now I guess, and when I heard her being rude it just really ticked me off. I feel kind of exhilarated right now, no wonder Brendon does it all the time."
"Who are you and what have you done with Tyler Joseph?"
