Upon opening her eyes, Evie was startled at first when she wasn't in her bedroom but then she remembered. She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. The cave was bright with sunlight and a few red coals simmered in the fire pit. Evie could hear the cops labored breathing and it made her nauseous. "Hey..." He whispered. She looked at him. "Are you tied too?" He asked in between huffs for breath. She shook her head no. "Then maybe you could untie me and help me out. And you could come too." He said. Evie could see that the man was infected from the gunshot and stab wound and weak from blood loss.
"I don't want to." She whispered. "I'm sorry." He sighed, closing his eyes in pain.
"Please, your parents are gonna be worried. And I need medical help, soon if I'm gonna live." He groaned.
"I'm sorry... I really am but... I can't. He needs me and if I help you out of here you'll get him in trouble." A tear rolled down Evie's face.
"Please. I'm dyi-" suddenly Marilyn came out of the dark end of the cave, shooting the man in the head quickly. Smoke rolled from the end of the gun as the man slumped to the ground. Evie's mouth was open in shock.
"I'm gonna need fresh blood, his is infected." He said deeply. He turned and looked at Evie. "Why do you look like that? I told you you'd be scared." He said moving closer. "I'm warning you you need to leave." He said more quiet then usual. "You wanna know what happened to the last girl that didn't leave?" He asked. Evie was almost too terrified to say yes but she did anyways. He glared down at her moving closer as he spoke. "She was a lot like you. She said she wanted to stay, that she couldn't leave. I believed her after a while when she said she... Loved me." Evie felt a tear run down her cheek. "Then I found out that... Love doesn't exist."
He was only feet from her face, his hands on the fur bed on either side of her. "She tricked me into loving her back and then decided she couldn't handle my lifestyle so she decided she wanted to leave. But when I fall in love, I refuse to let go. So I took her... And beat the shit out of her." Evie looked at her hands in her lap and he grabbed her face, forcing her to look into his black eyes. "I beat her until she couldn't sit up. Then I sat her up and beat her again until I didn't know if it was her blood or mine that covered us both."
Evie looked deep into his eyes and just couldn't possibly believe that he was a murderer. But he'd been doing it ever since she came here. "I learned not to trust anyone or anything." Now he was only inches from her face. She couldn't keep the tears of pity from pouring out of her eyes. She gently pulled his hand from her throat and leaned forward pressing her lips against his. He stiffened a little in shock before relaxing against her lips.
"Love does exist." She whispered through her tears. He looked at her, still shocked. She gently laid her hand on his face, caressing it softly. "You just have to trust the right person."

Evie crept into the back door as quietly as possible. She knew she was gonna be grounded if her mom saw her but then again she needed to see her mom so she wouldn't try to look for her. "Hey mom..." She whispered. Her mother was standing in front of the mirror, staring at the dark circles around her eyes.
"Evie, I don't even know what to say to you. I don't even know you I guess. One bad thing happens and you hide in the woods like a trapped animal." The words hit home and Evie felt a tear run down her face.
"Mom I..."
"Evie stop. Go back to the woods if you love it so much. I'm not gonna force you to hang around here." Evie felt like her head was gonna explode. Her mom made such a big deal out of everything.
"Mom seriously you need to stop." Her mom wheeled around facing her. "I just didn't know what to do okay! When you're the last person who was with a kid who's missing people are gonna expect you! I was scared so I hid okay!" Evie lied.
"Go to your room, I don't have time for this. We are gonna get sued Evie! All because you couldn't keep an eye on that kid!" Her mom yelled. Evie put her face in her hands. Why was her mom being like this? She wanted to think it wasn't her fault but she was the one who led the boy to his death. "A cop is missing." Her mom sighed, leaning against the sink and closing her eyes. "He never came back after checking the woods. If I were you I wouldn't go back there. There's something out here... Someone maybe... That knows exactly what they're doing. That's dangerous." Her mom said softly.
"I'm going to my room." She walked up the stairs. Her legs felt weak. I need a minute to think this through, she thought. Laying down on the bed, she closed her eyes. She was out of tears. She wondered why she hadn't picked up that gun or at least let the cop pull the trigger when they had a chance but the thought went away quickly when she remembered Marilyn. He was crazy. He was a murderer. So why did she feel that way about him? Why did she care about him? She couldn't have possibly shot him even if she'd gotten the gun. She wasn't a murderer. It killed her to shoot the little boy. She's only done it to keep from getting killed herself. Ever since she did it she felt like a robot. Like she was living her life outside of her body. She had come back to look for someone, fresh blood to hopefully fill Marilyn's craving. At least for a while. She knew she needed to do it soon but her feet felt like lead as she laid on the bed staring at the ceiling. She heard sirens blaring outside and knew the cops had come back to have another look around. A knock at her door made her sit up.
"Can I come in?" A mans voice asked.
"Sure..." Evie sighed. A cop opened the door and came in.
"Hello Evie, I'm Sheriff Peters. I came to talk to you about the boy. I need to know everything that happened from the beginning." He said softly, laying a hand on her shoulder. She wanted to punch him and run.
"He wanted to feed the goats so I told him we could get some apples and..." She suddenly had a flashback remembering the boy. His blue eyes, blond hair, cute childish smile when she said he could feed the goats.
"Evie?" The cop said. She jumped. Suddenly the thought that maybe she should tell the cop everything flashed through her mind but something stopped her. It made her furious that she couldn't make herself tell the cop every detail. She could save herself and so many others in the future and maybe Marilyn just needed psychological help. She couldn't do it.
"A black car pulled up and the person inside, it was a man with short hair, sunglasses and was dressed dark, he told him he had something to show him. I tried to grab his hand but it was too late. The man grabbed him and took off." Evie lied. She felt numb.
"So why didn't you come tell your mom when it happened?" The cop asked.
"I was afraid she'd think it was my fault. I'm sorry." Evie said, tears pouring out.
"Hey it's okay." The cop said, rubbing her shoulder. "Just make sure if it happens again you tell her as sol. As possible. There's a very bad person out there that's hurting a lot of people." He said. Evie cringed. It was practically her. She was the one that brought the boy to Marilyn in the first place.
The cop left and Evie sat there staring at the wall before going outside. She couldn't do it, she couldn't take someone back to Marilyn. She'd rather let him suck every last drop of blood from herself then let him kill someone else and it be her fault. She saw her mom talking to a few cops by the office and slipped out back heading towards the barn. She would go back just like she'd done before. Even if it killed her she was practically dead anyways. As she stepped into the dark woods the little bluebird flitted by with the cat close behind.
