He wanted to be a singer, a rockstar, and tried but couldn't get very far so he joined a group of people, a gang. People like him. He became their hit man. He got his first dose of what it was like to kill when he slit the persons throat that bullied him. He realized that for himself and for others there was no better revenge.
Evie sat quietly throughout his whole story finally putting everything into place in her mind. No wonder he turned out like he did. She realized she should be scared of him but she only felt a suffocating pity. He stared hard at her trying to read her emotions.
"You don't look as scared as some of the people that I told that story to did." He said.
"That's because I'm not scared. I've never been scared of you. I might be scared of the things you've done but I'm not scared of you." She said, her voice cracking with emotion. He looked back down at his friend who's breathing was getting labored. "Is he oka-"
"YES! He's fine!" Marilyn shouted. Evie knew he just didn't want to believe that his only friend was dying. "Sit with him while I bury that." He said voice low as he dismissively waved a hand at the dead man. Evie moved over and let him lay his friends head in her lap. She watched as he drug the body outside and gently caressed his friends forehead.
"I'm so sorry this happened." She said letting a few tears fall. His skin was even paler then before and his eyes flickered under his eyelids. She looked away and let herself cry. Marilyn finally came back in and stood watching Evie as she held his friend gently. She stood up to let him sit back down but before he did she put her arms around him. His body was stiff as she hugged him but she knew he didn't mind it. He needed it. "You don't have to try to be strong anymore." Evie whispered as he cradled her to him gently. "I..." She didn't know whether to say it or not but she had to let him know. "I love you Marilyn. I do. I always have and that's why I'm staying here with you."
She felt his face against hers and she pulled him closer. He had never shown her much affection but he was beaten. She kissed his cheek gently and pulled away. He sat back down with his friend. Evie stood up and made her way into the room where the woman was. She glared at Evie with pure hate. "What do you want?" She asked.
"I wanted to come in here and tell you that if you think you're EVER going to hurt him... That you've never been more wrong about anything in your life." Evie said. Her voice shook as she spoke and the woman crawled closer, looking up at her.
"Well I'm going to tell you that you're right." Evie was confused at first. "I'm not going to hurt him. I'm going to kill him. And then his friend and then you. He deserves to suffer for what he's done. I don't care how you feel about him he's a psycho and a freak and he deserves to burn in hell." Evie couldn't hold it in anymore. She screamed as loud as her lungs would allow and she began to kick the woman. She found she had more strength then she'd ever known as she punched and kicked. Blood started pouring from the woman's face and Evie's knuckles but she didn't care as she unleashed all of her hate and pain onto the woman.
Suddenly someone grabbed her pulling her away as she fought to get at the woman. Marilyn held her tightly against his chest as she sobbed. "I wanna kill her!" Evie choked out between sobs.
"Evie..." His deep voice made her quiet herself. "Her words will never hurt as much as what you will be able to do to her later. I've heard much worse about myself and it doesn't bother me. Not anymore." He whispered into her hair.
"You shouldn't have to!" Evie sobbed. "You don't deserve this! Nobody does! I can't take it anymore I just want you to be happy! I want everyone to be happy! If you wanted to sing why can't you make that happen?! Why can't I make it happen! You should be able to do what you want! You deserve the world!" Evie realized she'd probably let out too much of what she was thinking but it didn't matter. She looked at him and realized he was crying. She gently pulled his face to her shoulder as she glanced down at the woman who was unconscious on the floor at their feet. Just where she belongs Evie thought. She felt like all her morals were gone as she held Marilyn there in the cave. She'd finally let go of the part of herself that told her right from wrong. There was no right or wrong anymore. There was only what got them through. Whatever made Marilyn happy she was willing to do.
After a while he pulled away from her, holding her face in his hands. She wiped the tears from his face and looked into his eyes. She hoped what she'd said was something he would truly believe. "I believe you." He said in his gravelly voice. Evie laid her hand on his which was still on her cheek. She suddenly felt completely drained and decided to go to bed. As she made her way to the fur bed she'd come to know so well she checked in on Marilyn's friend who was looking even worse. She knew she better do something and soon.
