Evie woke up with a start. She felt a little better but knew she was still alive when she tried to lift her arm weakly and could barely do it. It would take a while for all of her blood to regenerate. Soft sunlight filtered through the cracks in the cave walls and Evie felt a cool breeze blow through giving her chills. She lifted her head and realized she was alone. She wondered where the man had gone. She squinted her eyes to see in the darkness of the cave and saw the man sitting on the opposite side of the room, glaring at her.
He had on the same black eye shadow as the day before with dark red lipstick and black leather pants with a black also leather vest. Evie started to sit up and quickly covered her bare breasts, pulling the furs close. The man stood up, moving slowly towards her. He dropped some black clothing next to Evie and knelt down beside of her, pulling the furs away from her. She tried to cover her nakedness but he grabbed her wrists, forcing her to expose herself. Her heart started pounding, this was his way of dominating her and she was actually very intimidated by him. He moved back as she reached for the clothes he had brought to her. She didn't know where hers were so these would have to do. She slipped on the tight black pants and low front, also tight black shirt as he watched her quietly. She was exhausted with the effort and collapsed back onto the pile of furs. She was extremely thirsty and knew her parents were probably scared out of their minds wondering where she was.
"I'm glad I found you." Evie jumped at his incredibly deep voice and looked at him without responding. "I have plans for you." He said. Evie just stared at him, hoping he wasn't planning on killing her. He stood up, walking into the shadows of the cave. He was so mysterious. Evie didn't know what his plans were for her but she thought she'd better leave while she had the chance. She crept slowly towards the small hallway that led to the entrance of the cave. She felt exhausted and didn't know if she would make it but she thought she should try. She made it to the entrance and stepped out into the sunlight. She suddenly felt a hand grip her wrist tightly. The man jerked her roughly back into the cave, pushing her against the wall, holding her wrists, trapped against the rough rock. He had a small snarl on his dark red lips as he glared down at her. She was breathing hard and her heart pounded in her chest. She sagged a little in exhaustion but he held her up against the wall tightly. "Get in here!" He growled deeply as he pulled her back inside.
          "I'm sorry I just-"
"No you're not." He growled. She looked down, unable to maintain eyes contact with him. He grabbed her throat, squeezing until she could barely breath, moving only centimeters from her face. "I need fresh blood." He growled so deeply that it was almost inhuman. "And you're the one who will get it for me." He said. Maybe he wasn't human, Evie thought, maybe he was something else. She wasn't sure but she couldn't help noticing how beautiful he was even though he was menacing.
"How do I do that?" Evie asked as he eased up on her throat.
"Find a child and bring it to me, or I'll drain every drop out of you." He said. Evie felt chills spread across her body.
"I can't just do th-" he squeezed her throat tightly,
"You don't know who you're dealing with, bring me a child or you and your family are dead to me." Evie reached up, laying her hand on his, unable to breathe but he didn't let up.
"Okay, okay." She gasped. He let go of her and she rubbed her sore neck. She felt a lump in her throat. She knew he would kill her family if she didn't do what he asked. He wouldn't think twice. She stumbled out of the cave and to the creek, sucking down the water thirstily. She coughed, rubbing her neck again. Who was he or maybe what was he? What human drank blood like that? Maybe he was a vampire. But those weren't real. Maybe he was just some psychopath. All she knew was that she had to get him what he wanted before her family paid for it. She stumbled down the hill to the path which led to the gate behind the barn. She opened the gate quietly. Her parents had opened the shop already and the parking lot was full of customers. Wow they didn't even know I was gone. Evie thought. She saw a little boy with shaggy blond hair, petting the baby goats in the petting zoo her parents had made for the kids while their parents shopped.
She felt a sense of dread as she made her way towards him. She knew what she had to do. "Hey. If you'll wait here I'll go get you an apple for you to feed them." Evie said trying to sound happy. The little boy smiled and nodded as Evie ran down to the house, hoping her parents wouldn't see her black clothing. She snuck in through the back door and ran to her room changing into her usual sweatpants and T-shirt. She made her way into the office where her mom was ringing people up at the register. "Hey." Evie said quietly.
"Evangeline I have to talk to you." Her mom whispered angrily. "Hold on just one moment ma'am!" Her mom smiled at the woman at the register. Before grabbing Evie's arm and jerking her outside. "What the hell are you thinking?! We were looking everywhere! We had to open the shop because there were customers lined up but for all we knew you were gone!" Her mom said, shaking Evie's shoulders.
"Mom calm down I fell asleep in the woods and just-"
"Fell asleep in the woods! That's ridiculous!" Her mom yelled. "You're not going up there anymore!" Her mom scolded.
"But I- okay fine." Evie gave in. She walked back up to the barn. The little boy was disappointed that Evie hadn't brought him and apple to feed the goats but she knew that could be her excuse to get him into the woods. "There's an apple tree in the pasture." Evie said, grabbing his hand and leading him through the gate and up the road to the woods.
"Where are we going?" The boy questioned.
"To the apple tree remember?" Evie said, a lump growing in her throat. She looked to the top of the hill where she saw the man waiting, his white face glowed in the darkness of the woods before he faded back into them. Evie was startled to see her cat in the brush alongside the road, batting the same little bird as before around on the ground. The bird was alive, Evie could see it fluttering its tiny blue wings but it seemed to be at the cats will, letting it bat and claw at it like it was a toy. She looks away helping the boy to the top of the hill, to the cave entrance. "Wanna see what a cave looks like?" Evie asked, her voice breaking. The boy smiled, his bright blue eyes shining. "Come on." Evie led him inside. The man came out of the darkness inside, grabbing the boy who began screaming. Evie held her ears, letting the tears flow freely. The man covered the boys mouth and held him down while he began greedily sucking the blood from his neck, smearing his lipstick on the child messily.
Evie felt nauseous and leaned against the wall, feeling like she might pass out. The boy got really still like he was sleeping after nearly ten minutes. The man sat up, glaring up at Evie who was cowering in the corner. He moaned as he licked the blood from his lips, still glaring at her. "You're so weak." He growled. Evie felt tears spill down her face. "Take the child out back and shoot it." He said completely emotionless. Evie pressed harder against the rocks, sobbing into her hands.
The man pulled out a pistol with a silencer attached and tossed it at Evie. It clattered to the ground at her side. She picked it up looking at him to see if he was serious. He just glared back at her from under his long black eye lashes. She knew she'd better do it if she wanted to live but could she? She tucked the gun into her waist band and walked over to the boy, gently picking up his limp body. "I'm sorry." She whispered.
"Never say your sorry, for anything." The man said, his deep grating voice, giving Evie chills. She carried the boy outside to the back of the cave. She laid him on the ground and pulled out the pistol. Her hand shook as she aimed at his head. Pulling the trigger, there was a small pop as the bullet left the gun. The boy's body jerked as his life left him. Evie turned away, vomiting. The man was standing there when she turned around. "Go back inside." He said. She obeyed, wondering what he would do with the body.
She collapsed on the furs inside still feeling extremely nauseous. The man came back inside after a half hour and stood staring down at her. "Are you scared of me?" He asked evilly. Evie shook her head yes, trying to keep eye contact but looked at the ground. "You should be." He said, "You should leave. Run." He growled. Evie looked back up in shock. Was he really just letting her go? "I said RUN bitch." He said, moving closer. Evie scrambled up and stumbled to the cave entrance. She stopped and looked back to see him still glaring at her. She took off, running down the hill, through the dirt path, put the gate and straight to her house. Once inside she collapsed into the floor, sobbing. She killed someones precious child. Her mom stormed into the back door.
"Evie what is going on?!" She shouted seeing Evie sobbing. "We have a customer out there who lost her son. I saw you with him, where did he go?" She asked sounding panicked. Evie had to think quick.
"I- I saw him... He got- some guy just, pulled up in a car and took him." Evie sobbed through the lie.
"WHAT?! OH NO!" Her mom screamed. "Evie calm down and tell me, what did the car look like what did the guy look like?" Evie, choked on her tears, quickly came up with a lie.
"The car was black, I didn't see the man well enough it happened so fast." She cried.
"Okay I'll go call 911." Her mom said sprinting outside. Evie heard a scream and knew her mom had told the boy's mother. She curled up in the floor feeling like she was having a panic attack. She heard footsteps running back and forth outside and stood up, making her way to her bedroom. She just wanted to sleep. She laid on her bed staring at the ceiling. Her dog Annie, padded into the room and jumped up beside her.
"Annie I don't know what to do." She cried into her fur. She closed her eyes thinking about all that had happened in the last two days. Who was that man? She walked to her laptop opening it and googling everything there was to know about vampires. She felt completely ridiculous. He was obviously a crazed person, vampires  weren't real. Drink blood, pale, don't like the sun, no emotions, often dark eyes... Can be killed by a stab in the heart. She read the last sentence over again. There's was no way she would kill him. She would never kill again. The whole gig was spot on. If vampires existed he was one. That's ridiculous, she thought. She knew she just needed sleep. Her mind was going haywire. She went back to her bed and laid down next to Annie. She felt deep down inside that maybe he just needed someone to love him he just didn't know how to love. Or maybe he was afraid to love. Evie slowly drifted to sleep, the muffled sound of a mother crying for son, echoed in her brain.
