There's less than five minutes until the New Year. Alyssa and I have just finished dancing to the Sam Cooke song "You Send Me," and at the moment, we are just spending time with our friends. "Ya know, I can't wait to see what awaits the Teenagers in 1959. I'm sure that we'll be back in the recording studio in no time," Kenny says. Joe nods, saying "I hope so, Kenny!" "I'll be spinning all your newest tunes when they're released," Andrew happily tells us. As the conversation about new music continues, I glance over to Rin, who's cuddled up to Billy. Does Billy know about Rin? Then, Jimmy states "My favorite part about this year was meeting Alyssa! I also enjoyed performing on American Bandstand!" I enjoyed performing on American Bandstand too. However, I'm gonna say that meeting Alyssa has made my year and life so much better.
A short time later, Herman exclaims "Here it is, guys! Time to count down!" Simultaneously, my friends and I exclaim "Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four! Three! Two! One! Happy New Year!" Passionately, I kiss Alyssa, and savor the moment. "Happy New Year, my love," I whisper when I break the kiss. Alyssa smiles, saying "Happy New Year to you too, Shermie" before kissing me again. When she breaks the kiss, I look around, and smile. Rin and Billy are so happy with each other. Also, it seems like Rin and Andrew are at peace with each other. How pleasing, I think. "Hey, Herman! Alyssa and I are gonna go to your room and listen to records!" I exclaim. Herman nods in approval, and then Alyssa and I make our way to Herman's room.
A few minutes later, Alyssa and I are standing in Herman's room. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" by the Platters plays on the record player. Comfidently, I look at Alyssa and say "Alyssa, I want to tell you something. Ever since I first laid eyes on you in the recording booth, I knew you were the girl I wanted to be with forever. You make me feel so complete. Your voice is like heaven, and waking up with you in my arms is such a wonderful feeling. Whenever we're making love, I feel so damn divine, knowing you're the girl of my dreams. Alyssa Houlton, will you be my girlfriend?" A joyous smile appears on Alyssa's face, and she ecstatically exclaims "Oh my god! Yes, Sherman, I'll be your girlfriend!" "Babe, thank you so much," I respond as I pull Alyssa closer to me and hug her. "You're welcome," Alyssa replies, nuzzling my shoulder. Then, I turn my head, and notice Joe is standing in the doorway, crying. What's with ol' Joey?
"Hey, Joey! What's got you so down and out? It's the New Year- be jovial!" I exclaim. With a mixture of sadness and anger in his voice, Joe replies "I just heard you and Alyssa- you should've known I liked you and Alyssa! Alyssa was the girl I wanted to be with; but no, she's your girlfriend!" "Joe, I knew you liked the both of us," I respond, hoping to calm him down. I then state "There were times when I could tell you wanted to ask Aly-" "Shut up, Sherman! Just shut the fuck up!" Joe angrily interrupts. He then turns away and runs down the hall, still sobbing. Awkward silence fills the air, and Alyssa looks at me. Puzzled, I ask "What... Alyssa, why did Joe get so mad?" "I don't know, babe. However, I still want to be your girlfriend. Joe will get over this soon; he's not the type of guy to wallow in sadness for long period of time." "I hope so," I respond, kissing Alyssa. Joe, why'd you get so mad? I knew you wanted to be Alyssa's lover; hell, I could tell there were times when you even wanted to propose to her! What caused Joe to get mad at me for asking Alyssa to be my girlfriend seems like an unsolvable mystery, though.
