Max's POV:

Well, this day has been a nightmare.

If Valdez comes near me again, I'll drown him. With the help of Percy. And any other children of Poseidon.

I want to know if Leo was actually hitting on me, which he most likely wasn't, so it was a good thing that a daughter of Aphrodite was watching us. I found it kind of disturbing at first, knowing that she was watching us the whole time, but I figured I could use that as an advantage.

Percy and Leo walk away, and I'm just standing there, wondering what to do with my life. Then I hear footsteps storming towards me, and I turn to face the daughter of Aphrodite, who's running to me, smiling like she just witnessed the best moment of her life.

Really? You, too?

When she reaches me, she starts squealing and jumping up and down.

"Whoa, are you alright? Are you having a seizure?" I ask in mock concern.

She stops jumping and laughs. "What?" I ask bluntly, and she stares at me like I'm the dumbest person she's known.

I've known you for ten seconds and you already think I'm dumb.

"I saw what happened between you and Leo Valdez over there. You guys have to get together or I'll die!" She squeals happily.

I'll kill you myself.

"You didn't realize that Leo was totally hitting on you? You do know that he was trying to impress you with his fire, right? By the way, I'm Hailey. Daughter of Aphrodite," Hailey explains.

Get that sword out!

"Yeah, I can tell you're a daughter of Aphrodite. And Leo wasn't hitting on me. We barely know each other. And besides, me and him? It wouldn't work out. He's fire, I'm water. And I'm not looking for love right now. Find someone else to hook up with Valdez," I respond, and start walking away. That part about not wanting to fall in love was true.

It wasn't love, but I trusted someone, I really trusted him, and even though he was right there, right in front of me, he didn't help me when I needed him the most. I have trust issues, that's all.

"HELP!" I hear someone yell from a distance. I jerk my head in that direction. It's coming from the lava-spewing climbing wall.

A girl, maybe twelve years old, with dark brown curls, is dangling from a tight rope tied around her waist, and lava is slowly coming down towards her.

How the Hades did she get herself in that mess?

With wide eyes, I run almost as fast as I can, which is very fast, to the climbing wall, and everyone's just standing around the climbing wall, gasping in shock and horror, pointing and yelling, 'Look!'. Why isn't anyone helping?

I push my way to the front of the crowd, and next to me is Percy. I always somehow find myself next to this guy.

"How did this happen?!" I ask Percy, screaming the question over the loud screams and yells from everyone around me.

"I don't know! But we got to do something!" Percy yells back. I look up and realize that it's just a rock climbing wall. I'm a fast, strong Garde. I have my sword with me, shoved in my sheath.
