(Most of the book will be told in Max's point of view.)
Max's POV:
John leads me to a blue van with a guy I don't recognize in the passenger seat. Is that another Garde?
The guy gets out of the van, smiling, something I won't learn to do anytime soon.
He walks up to me and offers his hand. "Hi. I'm Sam Goode, John's friend," he informs me. I shake his hand and introduce myself. Turns out he's a human, not a Garde. I'm cool with him either way.
"I'm Number Two, or Max. You can call me either one." It's weird, how I'm allowing Sam to call me 'Two'. I've never let anyone call me Two before, not even Conrad.
"Sweet. Hop in. Next stop, wherever John takes us." Sam jokes and he and John chuckle. Sam hops in the back and allows me to sit in the passenger while John drives.
"You're a good driver, right?" I ask, only half joking. Sam and John chuckle again, but I can't seem to smile at all.
"I'm alright." John replies, shrugging his shoulders, then starts the engine and drives away.
I watch the Argo ll get smaller and smaller in the mirror until John makes a turn onto a road, and it's gone. Probably forever, who knows?
"So, where's your Cêpan?" John asks.
"Dead," I reply bluntly.
"Same here."
"How'd you find me?" I ask John.
"I followed the Mogs." Okay, people can do a lot of stupid things, but that's just too stupid. Follow the Mogs? Wow.
"Any legacies develop?" Sam asks from behind me. I nod my head yes.
"One. Invisibility," I respond. I can have something else, but I don't know it yet.
"Sweet. I have Lumen, animal telepathy, and telekinesis. Those are the ones I know of." John informs me.
"Lumen? What's that?" I ask.
"Here, I'll show you," John tells me. His right hand lets go of the steering wheel and he points it down. A blue light shines from his palm and I stare at in amazement. That's a thing?
The light dies down and instead is replaced with a burning red fireball, which doesn't surprise or startle me. I'm used to this.
But it automatically makes me sad. It reminds me of Leo. And, of course, John decides to bring him up for some reason.
"So that guy back there, the one you kissed, is he your boyfriend?" John asks me, a smirk starting to form on his face. I'm ready to slap it off.
I glare at him. "No. The guy with green eyes and black hair is my brother, though. The rest are just my friends."
"Wait, you have a brother?! Who's alive?!" John asks, surprised.
"Yeah, my dad was- is- human. My mom was Loric. I never met my dad, though," I inform him.
Then we're flying forwards. We've been hit from behind. John's head hits the window, but I'm not so lucky. I go flying out the front window, rolling on the cold, hard ground. I spot a black motorcycle slamming into the side of the van, the side that I was on. Oh, it turns out I was more lucky than I thought.
The girl riding the motorcycle with long, curly, raven black hair goes flying off her motorcycle and crashes into the ground a feet away from me, next to John's door. John is knocked out, but I'm not sure about Sam. I hope he's okay.
But I recognize something as the girl riding the motorcycle attempts to get up, falling on her stomach again. A silver chain dangling around her neck, with a circular stone glowing Loralite blue hanging on the middle of it.
A Loric pendant.
I push the pain aside and run to her. I help her up and look at her pendant for awhile, then I look at her and whisper lowly, "What number are you?"
She looks at my neck that no longer has a pendant on it and I see an 'I'm-ready-to-attack' look in her eyes.
"I'm Number Two," I whisper so only the both of us can hear.
Her expression relaxes but then turns to excitement and joy. "You're a Garde?" She asks excitedly.
I nod my head yes. She smiles and I can't help but smile, too. One day, two Garde found. It's a miracle that I found one Garde, but two in one day is a miracle that's so rare it was forgotten.
"Nice to meet you, Two. I'm Six." Number Six introduces herself, but I snap back to reality as I hear police sirens in the distance. Six must hear it as well since we have enhanced hearing, cause she jerks her head to the direction the sirens are coming from.
"We got to get out of here," I say and Six nods her head in agreement. She climbs back on her motorcycle after pushing John to the passenger seat with her telekinesis. Turns out she has invisibility, too.
We'll get along just fine.
I start driving and Sam pops up a question. "Are you a good driver?"
"I've never driven before," I reply bluntly and honestly. I know how everything works and what to do, but I've never really tried it before.
"Great," Sam replies sarcastically. I roll my eyes at him and continue driving, occasionally looking in the mirror to see if Six is following us.
"So...you only have invisibility?" Sam asks me, obviously trying to change the subject.
"Yep," I answer, popping the 'p'.
"Sweet. I wish I had legacies," Sam tells me. On the road, so far so good. No cops have been seen or heard, no Mogs, and I didn't crash the car. Woo!
I hear a groan from next to me. I take a quick look and turn back to the road. John is waking up, dark red blood dripping from his forehead.
"John, you alright?" I ask worriedly.
He groans again then sits upright, rubbing his head which is probably pounding like crazy.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he replies, even though I know he isn't. I just felt like it was right to ask at the moment.
"Oh, by the way, Two, who was that black haired chick you were talking to back there? The one whose motorcycle crashed into the van, and she's following us now?" Sam asks, confused.
"Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you. She's another Garde. Number Six," I reply, which I'm pretty sure will make them scream.
"WHAT?!" John and Sam scream in unison. Called it.
"Yeah, she has a pendant and legacies. Plus she knows all about Lorien and things like that. I'll introduce you guys to her when we stop." I explain to them. Six's motorcycle starts driving next to me, and we smile at each other. We're a lot alike, and I like her. We met a few minutes ago and she's already like a sister to me.
It's a miracle.
