John's POV:
Max walks away, past us, and into the John Hancock Building. Leo Valdez races after her and I slowly trail behind.
After a few seconds of waiting behind a wall inside the lobby where Max and Leo are, I hear talking.
"Max, are you alright? I'm so sorry about that I-I..." Leo trails off and sighs.
"You what? Forgot about me? It sure seems like you did."
"What? No! I could never forget about you, Max. I thought about you everyday," Leo protests.
"Everyday except the days you had that girlfriend of yours by your side."
Wow. Sassy.
Leo sighs. "Max, I just want you to know that, I-" another sigh. "I love you, Max."
Even I'm taken aback by that comment. I know they kissed a year ago, but I didn't know it was like this.
After a moment of silence, Max asks, "Then why'd you break your promise?"
"I-I, I don't know, I'm sorry, and I....hey, you still have it," Leo says.
I peek around the corner and see Max and Leo sitting on a small couch. Leo's leaning in and examining something around Max's neck- the blue necklace she always wears with a trident hanging down the middle.
"Yeah, I do," Max replies.
"You figure out what it could do yet?" Leo asks, smirking. Max looks confused and shakes her head no. "Take it off, let me show you."
Max unclips the necklace and hands it to Leo, confusion and interest on her face. Leo flips the necklace and catches it in mid-air as a blue snake-shaped whip.
Max stares at the whip, shocked, then she looks more relaxed, then angry as Leo hands the whip back.
"Take it. I don't want it. You can give it to Calypso, I don't really care," Max says coldly, pushing the whip back to him and looking away. Leo looks hurt but takes back the whip, flipping it so it turns back to a necklace and shoving it in a tool belt strapped around his waist.
Leo opens his mouth to say something else but everyone starts storming in, and that's when I hear the rain pouring. I look outside and it's raining like crazy.
"Jeez, it's raining cats and dogs out there," One girl with choppy brown hair and multi-colored eyes complains. Max said her name was Piper.
"Oh no. Max, you might want to look at this," Six calls out to Max. Max gets up from the couch, leaving Leo with Calypso, and rushes over to Six's side. I head there and stand next to Max, looking out the wet glass door.
They're here, the Mogadorians are here for the second time today.
Do they always have to ruin family reunions?
Max's POV:
Mogs are stupid.
Just as I reunite with my brother, and before I even get to say anything to him, they decide to crash in and ruin everything. Even though everything is already ruined.
I still can't believe that Leo just forgot about me, left me for Calypso. It burns me on the inside, but I try to hide it on the outside.
I unsheathe my sword when Leo pops up between John and I. He gives an exasperated sigh as he stares out at the pouring rain and small army of Mogs storming towards the John Hancock. "How am I supposed to fight in this weather?" He complains. I roll my eyes and grip my sword tightly, ready to swing it at a moment's notice.
