It's been years since the great crow was defeated
Tokagawa had married Nagisa, at first the court were having some scruffles against her. They didn't want to accept a commoner, but she proved herself capable and worthy, much to their chagrin, and the people loved her
Tokagawa was now the emperor, so far, his reign has been prosperous and peaceful, but it was only just beginning
Kai and Akira stayed friends to the new imperial family, vowing to help whenever they we're needed, but now they were both free to come and go as they pleased. They were considered important guests whenever they visited, not that they cared

Akira landed in the palace' vast gardens, where the imperial family were lounging
She saw a young couple sitting on the grass, despite their fancy garments, a little girl waddling after a butterfly, and a small boy playing with a handsome man with long white hair and deep blue eyes
They noticed her and came running, the little girl tripping over the hem of her garments, fulling right into Akira's arms
She smiled at the little girl: Chiako you should be more careful
The little girl giggled, snuggling into her chest
She smiled, shaking her head and squeezing the child gently
Kai came up to her, smiling warmly: You have to make an entrance, can't you come on time, if only just once?
She lifted her nose haughtily like the ladies of court: Now what would be the fun of that
The little boy pouted, puffing his cheeks: You haven't come in a long time, and you don't even say hello to me..
Nagisa scolded her son: Akito! Where are your manners?! You should be the greeting her. She is your elder
Akira taunted: What are you implying, your grace? I'm still young you know, and will be even when he reaches your age
Her eyes we're twinkling mischievously, and Nagisa was taken aback for a second, till she caught on that and shook her head, smiling
Tokagawa placed his hand on Nagisa's shoulder, smiling at her lovingly: Akira, stop teasing my poor wife
Akira: Why hello to you too old man
He laughed: I'm not that old, and have you forgotten that you had your eyes on this old man, not so long ago
She smirked: I haven't, but right now you are simply too old for me
She touched a hair on his head: Your hair has begun to gray
He sighed, but shook his head, smiling
Akira: Anyway, it's true I couldn't have the father, but who knows, maybe in a few years, I can have the son
She turned towards Akito: What do you say young man, would you want to marry me one day
He smiled widely: Yes, Akira is beautiful and strong!
He had made a flower crown, and she bent her head so he could place it on her head
She hugged the little guy..
Tokagawa and Nagisa we're exchanging troubled smiles. They knew she was long over him, but they didn't know whether she was serious with her last comment or not. They didn't think so, but with Akira, who could tell for sure?
At that point, a graceful older woman emerged from inside of the palace: There you are! Why haven't you told me that dear Kai and Akira were here?
Tokagawa and Nagisa bowed, greeting her: Hello mother
The children ran into her open arms: Oba-chaan!
Akira walked towards Lady Maron, wanting to greet her old friend
Kai caught her wrist, almost posessively: Where you serious just then?
Akira replied innocently: What do you mean?
Kai: You know what I mean..
Akira smiled: Maybe no, maybe yes
He let her go, sulking
She stood on tip toes, whispering in his ear: What I can tell you is, you have nothing to worry about right now
His cheeks reddened and he scramble after his friends, going to greet Lady Maron
The hinotori and wadatsumi, in spite of being different races, have reached a perfect harmony, but whether the feeling between them was only friendship, or something more, is a story for another time
