I froze. My eyes strayed to Lucas and I saw him discreetly shake his head as if he knew what I was about to say.

"Does it matter? Right now we have more important things to discuss," mama said. I breathed a sigh of relief. If I had spoken, I was sure the situation might have been blown out of proportion.

"Antoinette is right. There are more important things to discuss like who were the guards on duty. Who allowed that scum into the house? I believe we have a traitor in our midst," uncle Vincentè said.

Grand papa nodded regally.

"Paulo, I want you to look into this matter. Find out who the mole is and exterminate it. Vincentè, gather your men. I think it's time for a visit to the D'Mercurio family house. Make it worthy of a front page headline. Am I understood?"

Grand papa stood and slowly walked out of the room.

"He would want to talk to you," mama said."
She was right. Grand papa never forgot anything especially when it came to family. He wanted to always be aware of everything that happened around him.

"Yes, mama," I said.
I glanced in the direction of Lucas briefly. He was nodding at something Uncle Paulo was saying.
"I'll go talk to him now," I said.

Mama shook her head. "No. It's half past one. You must wait until morning before speaking to him. He needs a lot of rest."

"I'm going to bed," I said.

"Alright, dear. I'll wait for a little while before going back to sleep."

I walked back to my room and slumped on my bed tiredly and fell asleep immediately.
