My hands shook lightly as I stood in front of grand papa's bedroom door. I wondered briefly if what I was about to do was the right thing to do. I'd spoken to mama earlier on my way to his room.

I'd asked if there was to be a funeral. She'd said yes. Papa's funeral. It was to be a very secret affair and I wasn't invited. I was angry when she told me this. How could I not be present for my own father's funeral? Mama went on to explain that it was mainly because grand papa did not want me to be caused pain and suffering and also because they were burying an empty coffin. According to her, papa's body was never recovered.

I pondered long and hard about what she said. There were too many things I didn't understand. Mama didn't seem like the type of woman who would sit back and refuse to seek her husband's body no matter how difficult it was. She was a very determined woman. And very resourceful.

Maybe that was why I hesitated at grand papa's door. Telling him what I heard will only cause more tension. Especially since I was certain the man I'd heard was a man close enough to have access to information.

Maybe, just maybe, I needed to keep what I had heard to myself and try to figure everything out alone before I told anyone.

I stepped back from the door and made my way downstairs to the dinning room for breakfast.
