The distinct sound of whispering outside my door woke me up. I was a light sleeper under stress. The sun was barely begining to peek out of the clouds. I tiptoed to the door and pressed my ear against it.

"It is time. We can't afford to waste anymore time. If the plan is to succeed, it must be implemented now," a voice said.
It was silent for a minute or so and I was almost certain that the man was gone when he spoke again.

"I understand. You are right. After the funeral, the first stage will begin."

First stage? What was going on?

"Alright. Everything is in place. Soon, the De Laurentis will know the true meaning of fear and respect."

I heard the sound of retreating footsteps and I clutched my chest in an attempt to calm my rapidly beating heart.

I fought the urge to ran to mama and tell her everything.
What would I tell her? That there was a traitor in the mansion? She already knew that. Perhaps the only thing she didn't know was who it was. And I might have heard his voice clear enough to know he was male but not enough to know who it was.

But one thing was certain, soon the De Laurentis family will be thrown into chaos.

I pulled my hair in a tight ponytail and put on a black dress. My hands were shaking. Not from fear. No. But from anticipation. From adrenaline. I held the edge of the dressing table and and breathed in deep.

You have to be strong. Brave. Bold.
You need to keep your eye and ears on the ground.

I straightened my dress and walked out of the bedroom. The first thing I needed to do was talk to grandpapa.
