It is funny how life puts things into clear perspective. A month ago, I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with my life after university. A few days ago, I wouldn't have dared to mention what I was about to say. But, we'd been holed up in a rundown motel for six days now and I was fed up.

I sat on the couch reading the message on my phone for the hundredth time.

You have a home with me.
Antonio

It could be a trap but I didn't care. If I was going to die, I'd rather die in a mansion than a rotten bug infested motel.

"We should go somewhere else," I told mama as I sipped from my bottle of water.

She paused in her talk with Lucas and the bald headed man who'd driven us out of the D'Laurentis house. I couldn't for the life of me remember his name.

"Not now Irene. I'm busy," she said.

I placed the bottle on the floor next to my feet.

"We are running low on money. Uncle Paulo's shadow is practically breathing down our necks. I'm just saying that maybe we should place our eggs in a different basket. Maybe just maybe, we should look to one of our former allies."

Mama sighed.
"Where are you going with this?"

I swallowed thickly.

"Lets ask Antonio for help."

"You do know he killed your father," Lucas pitched in.

"Yes and I shed a few tears for him but that didn't bring him back, did it? We need to survive," I said.

Mama rubbed her forehead as she sighed.

"Fine. Contact him. Let him know... whatever," she said.

She must have been desperate.

"I won't know what to say," I said.

It was true. I didn't know him really. The only thing I knew was that he wanted to sleep with me. He virtually implied it the night he snuck into my room.

"Lucas, David, leave us," mama said.

"You can't allow this, mistress."

"Lucas, leave us," mama said sternly.

He looked at me before shaking his head and walking out.

Mama turned to look at me.

"I've taught you many things. You've chosen to ignore most of them but now, now you have to fall back on them."

"Mama,"

"You have no choice. This is real life. Everything has a price. Antonio expects something from you. And you must be willing to give it to him. Are you?" she ended.
