In Which The Wolves Begin To Prowl 1

"D'Mercurio has infiltrated the house," uncle Paulo said. We were gathered in the study downstairs.

"Antonio was spotted climbing into one of the rooms through the window. We have cause to suspect that it was your room, Irene."

His grey eyes stared at me. I had a feeling even mother wouldn't stand by me if it was proven that I entertained Antonio in my room.

"It couldn't have been my room." Oh Virgin Mary help me. "Lucas was with me."
My eyes flickered to Lucas as I spoke. His dark eyes narrowed and I knew I was walking on dangerous grounds.

"Lucas," uncle Paulo frowned and I knew he was thinking the same thing Vincentè thought when he saw us sprawled on the marble floor.

"Is this true?" Grandpapa asked. He looked tired as he sat on the leather chair.

"Yes sir," Lucas answered.

Grandpapa sighed and leaned heavily into the chair.
"You know the rules and the punishment attached to breaking those rules."

Lucas nodded.
"Yes sir."

"Leo..."
Leonardo was grandpapa's most trusted punisher. He was a big, bald tatooed man. His methods of torture were questionable. I had to do something.

"I invited him in," I interrupted.
Lucas shook his head discreetly at me. I could almost hear him cursing me in his head. Grandpapa stared at me. I wasn't sure what he was thinking. And I didn't like it.

"Why?" He asked.
