Antonio stood at the entrance of the main house dressed in a black suit with a blonde woman standing next to him. He looked as if he'd just come out of a meeting.

I walked towards him and the pretty blonde clutching my hand bag tightly.

"So, this is the charity case you were talking about," the blonde said, her red lips parting in an ugly sneer. "I expected something more."

Was that what Antonio had called me? A charity case?

"Shut the fuck up Laurentia and get back inside. You are here to visit Paula and not to meddle in my damn business," Antonio said.

Laurentia glared visciously at me before stalking back into the house.

"Charity case?" I asked him. "Is that what you called me?"

"Forgive Laurentia. She doesn't take well to strangers."

"You haven't answered my question, Antonio."

"I didn't."

"I hope she won't be a problem during my stay here?"
I said as we walked into the house.

"You are a demanding little thing aren't you?"

I paused, taking in the decor of the mansion.

"I like to feel safe, Antonio. That is why I'm here in your house."

"How can I forget? It is the main reason I offered you a sanctuary in my home. Despite what you think, your safety is a priority of mine."

"Will your Laurentia be a problem to my safety?"

He stared straight at me. A frown marred his face.

"She won't. You have my word."

Words meant nothing to me. I didn't believe in a lot of things now. He didn't need to know that though.

"I believe you, Antonio," I said softly.
I had to remember why I was here. It wouldn't do any good to act like a demanding little bitch.

"I'm tired. Can you show me to a room where I can take a nap?" I asked softly.
I wondered briefly if he saw through my lie.

"Of course."

He led me upstairs to a room at the end of the corridor.

"One of the guards will bring your bags later," he said.

"Thank you."
I looked around the room. There was a huge bed in the middle of the room and an antique dressing mirror. The room was plain and for reason, I loved it.

"I hope the room is to your liking," Antonio asked.

"Yes. It is alright. I like it."

"Good. I deliberately left it plain so that you could design it to your taste."

"It's perfect."

"Okay. I'll leave you to rest. I hope you will be well rested by lunch."

I nodded.

"See you later."

I breathed in deep when he shut the door behind him.

Finally, I could breath easily.
