We're Home

(Darry's POV)

Seven years after dropping off Scar. I got a call today from court saying that I could now adopt all three. I called everyone in the gang except of course Johnny telling them to meet me at the lot.

I also told Dally to get Johnny from his house. I changed into some nicer clothes. I'll have to tell them that secret I've been hiding from them. I'll just tell them next week.

I picked them all up at the lot. When they got in the car, Dally said, "Darry, what is this all about?" I said, "Don't get too excited, but I get to adopt Scar, Soda, and Pony today."

Two-bit and Steve starting hollering and cheering, Johnny and Dallas just smiled, while I was   thinking about how better our lives just got!

We stopped at the court and I said, "Let's bring them home!" We stood outside to be greeted by Ponyboy first.

He ran into our arms. I started crying and said, "Glad your back, Pony." He smiled and said, "Glad to be back." I grabbed Ponyboy's suitcases and put them in the trunk.

Another boy came out and said, "Pony!" He turned around and hugged the boy. The boy said, "I'm gonna miss you, Pony." He said, "You too, Michael."

Michael waved at him, while getting into another vehicle, and Pony watched the car drive off. Next out came Sodapop. He came out with five boys trailing him.

He looked at us and said, "Hey guys. Long time no see." He's 19 now, and he looks so much older. I can't believe I missed watching him grow up.

Steve was the first to hug him. Right when he saw him he yelled, "SODA!" He ran and wrapped him up in a big bear hug. Soda said, "I missed you too, Steve."

I started laughing at this. I grabbed Soda's bag and put them in the back. Soda said goodbye to the five boys. We waited a couple minutes, and Scar finally came out.

Her happy-go-lucky smile is on her face. She's 14 now, and more mature. She started crying, and I did to.

She hugged me first and said, "I missed you Darry." I said, "You too." Next, she hugged the gang. Man, weren't they glad to see her. They all started crying. She hugged Pony and told him she missed him.

Last but not least, Sodapop Curtis. She ran and jumped into his arms. He's 19 now and she's 14 so he's now much taller than she is.

They both never stopped hugging each other which was sweet, but it was time to go home.

(Scar's POV)

When I saw Soda, I ran and jumped in his arms. Seven years, seven years! I have not seen my best friend and kid brother for seven years! I cried on his shoulder and he cried on mine.

It was a sweet moment, until Darry ruined it by saying, "Ok, we have to go home guys." I let go of Soda, and we all got in the vehicle. Darry said, "Scar, this came for you today."

He handed me an envelope and on the front it said 'Manhattan School of Music". I started getting excited. I thought I missed my chance of going? I ripped open the letter to read this:

Dear Miss Scarlet Marie Curtis,

We would like to inform you that you did not come to our school that one year we assigned it to you, so we would like for you to join whenever. We normally don't do this, but I think we can make an exception for you. Hope this makes you happy.

I looked at Darry and said, "The Manhattan School of Music is letting me go there anytime!"

He smiled and said, "That's great, honey. I'm proud of you." I smiled and said, "Thanks."

I wiped my tears off that I shed when I saw the gang. My life just got super better! We arrived home, and let me tell you it hasn't changed one bit.

I ran inside and hugged everything: the couch, our old bedroom, the kitchen, the shower curtain, and the lamps in the house. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, but I didn't care. This was my home. This is my home. This is where I belong. Did I mention how cute Dally is now?
