Walking through the store I scan each piece of clothing but nothing appeals to my eyes. I need something different, something that will really catch his eye.
Last night when I was at Alex's place he asked me to accompany him to some charity function his parents are putting on. It's supposed to be in support of education for kids who are not as fortunate. To say the least I'm very nervous. I mean I am going to be meeting his parents for the first time. That's a big deal for people.
I've heard very interesting things about his parents and when I googled them this morning they didn't look as friendly. My father says that they're not that bad once you get to know them and he's done business with them a few times.I continue to walk around the store and decide to give up after finding nothing. The function is on Friday which is two days from now. Kara is helping me with picking out something to wear. I don't go to pick out my dresses hands on very much but I want to make a great impression on Alex's parents.
Looking through the racks I end up finding a long black slip dress that looks cute. I just hope it's not too revealing.
Trying it on I look at myself through the mirror examining the way I look. Holding up my hair I try to imagine what I would like in it with my hair.
A slicked ponytail.
That would look fine.
Making my way to pay for the dress I pull my credit card handing it to the lady.
"That's cute but you don't think it's too much?" Kara stands beside me examining my dress choice.
She's been a little snappy for a couples days. Maybe that's why she's just saying that.
"No. Besides its the only thing that's caught my interest since Alex himself." I joke, but she doesn't laugh.
What's going on with her today?
Kara has never been so down before since I've met her. Maybe there's something going on with family and she doesn't want to talk about it.
My phone rings and I sigh at the caller ID.
Ana has been calling me all day wanting to be apart of the big event one way or another. I didn't tell her I was going shopping but I feel a tinge of guilt surfacing because of it. I don't know why, but lately I haven't been as good of a friend as I usually would. Whatever it is, I need to get over it. Ana has been my best friend for ages and she doesn't deserved to be treated like this. No matter how obnoxious she is. I'm friends with for a reason, but it just seems like lately I don't even know what that reason is.
Picking up the phone, I don't allow her to speak. "Bergdorf Goodman. That's where I'm at. Call me when you get here I'll meet you at front." She responds with an okay before hanging up and I decide to hand Kara the dress to carry.
I'm not going to wear it. I'll save it for another occasion.
Some time goes by when I finally receive the call that Ana was here. Kara wasn't too excited about the thought of spending the afternoon with Ana but that's not new. We end up having a good day and Ana ends up being the one to find me the perfect dress. She has great style sense, I don't know why I doubted her.
They both come back to the townhouse with me so I can get ready for the night.
Sipping down my sixth bottle of water, I try to swallowing my anxiety.
They're going to like you.
His parents will like you.
Don't worry about it.
I try to repeat the words in my head to calm down my shaking body.
I'm going to vomit.
"Choke it up, Evie." I look up to Ana standing above me, giving me a stern look but somewhere underneath I can see her concern. "Do not vomit. You can do better than that."
She was right.
Taking a deep breath and nodding, I put down the bottle of water before taking the dress that was in Ana's hands and putting it on.
Tonight will be s good night.
