"Kenma!"
"Kenma, oh my God that was amazing!"
Blush creeps onto the boy's face as he sits down in between Kuroo and Akaashi on the floor of Bokuto's (mom's) basement. The other four boys were on the other side of the room-- Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Hinata and Kageyama, and Hinata laughed and talked about all the cool things Kenma did while Kageyama pretended not to be salty and jealous.
"What? It was just Nicki Minaj."
"I didn't know you could rap??" Bokuto exclaimed. Akaashi just smiled at Kenma's flustered face.
"He's the best!" Hinata giggled from across the room as he jumped down from Bokuto's "homemade" karaoke stand. "You should hear him imitate Iggy Azalea!"
"No. No, please no--" Kenma shakes his head wildly. Akaashi can't push down his laugh by then, and the three boys sitting beside him turn to look.
"Akaashiiiii!"
"Bokuto-san?" Akaashi turns to look at him, and he gives all of them a huge, bright smile.
"Can you sing for us too?"
"Yeah, why don't you sing for us Akaashi?" Kenma gives him a smug little look (he probably shouldn't have laughed at him), and Kuroo grinned, nodding in agreement. "Or at least a duet with someone. Please. We must see this."
"Akaashi's a really good singer. Aren't you, 'Kaashi?" Kenma gives him an innocent smile, and all Akaashi can think is oh no, oh no no please. It's written on his face. He's shaking his head.
Kenma takes it as encouragement and smiles even more (which puts this awed look on Kuroo's face).
"One time, when he was kind of tipsy--"
"Kenma, please, we agreed not to talk about this--"
"We were having a sleepover, and he sang us a bunch of hits from--"
"Kenma, please--"
"--Britney Spears."
"Jesus Christ--"
Akaashi could barely hear Hinata saying "Asahi isn't here" in the background, and ended up ignoring it as he dropped his face in his hands. Kuroo started laughing-- his hysterical, adorkable, strange laugh. All the while Kenma grinned, proud of himself.
Bokuto turned and studied Akaashi while he slowly died inside with every second passing.
"I didn't know you liked Britney," Bokuto frowned, and Akaashi groaned.
"I was drunk--"
"Nonetheless, you still seemed to have memorized the lyrics...." Oikawa called from across the room in a very smug, very proud tone. Iwaizumi looked confused. Hinata looked awed.
Bokuto shot a look to Kenma, asking, "He was there too?" Kenma just smiled again.
"Oikawa, stop--"
"Why don't you sing a song for us?" Kuroo asked, and Akaashi dies just a little bit more.
"No."
"Yes."
"NO."
"Please!"
"I'll pay you!" Kageyama calls from across the room, smiling and holding up a five dollar bill.
"Seriously? Only five?" Akaashi can't help the salty words that roll of his tongue. Hinata jumps up suddenly.
"I'll chip in!"
"Hinata... you're broke."
"I don't care! I need to see this!"
"Guys what the hell?" Akaashi started, but Kenma put a finger to his lips.
"Shh, say no more. Unless you sing it. Then please."
"What if Hinata sang with you?"
"He'd outshine him, there's no way!" Kageyama called out.
"Are you trying to say that Hinata is better than Akaashi?" Kuroo said, suddenly angry. "You wanna fight?"
Kageyama pretends to roll up his sleeves and stands up. "I'll destroy you, punk ass--"
"What if I sang with you?" Bokuto asked, interrupting the boy's brawl. "Would it be okay then?"
Akaashi hesitated, a little weirded out by himself and the fact that he even considered this offer. "I-- uh--"
"Just do it, man,"
"I-- I really don't..." Akaashi started, but Bokuto lifted him up, off the floor, and dragged his sorry ass to the microphone. Bokuto grabbed another and stood next to him, turning to give him a small smile. "There's only Hit Me Baby One More Time and Toxic on here."
"I..." Akaashi kind of just stared at Bokuto a second, blankly. "Toxic it is then."
"Ooh, Iwa-chan, pull out your phone!" Oikawa whispered as Bokuto got the old machine started. "This is going to be really good!"
"I heard that, you trash," Akaashi grumbled, and Kageyama laughed aloud. Bokuto handed him the microphone and gave a small grin-- one that told him that he was literally just singing for a bunch of losers and that it would be fine if he messed up.
The opening tune started up, He threw on his usual bored, done expression, and started to sing one of his favorite songs.
"Baby can't you see? I'm callin'/ A guy like you should wear a warnin'/ It's dangerous, I'm fallin'." Akaashi looked over at Bokuto, signaling that it was his turn to sing. He wiped the awed expression off his face and sang confidently after him.
"There's no escape, I can't wait/ I need a hit, baby give me it--" Bokuto puts an arm around him and Akaashi has to surpress a laugh. He sang before this, but he does have a nice voice. "--You're dangerous. I'm lovin' it."
"McDonald's," Iwaizumi mutters. He's barely said anything all day. Oikawa snorts, and Kenma sighs.
"Too high, can't come down/ losin' my head, spinnin' round and round," Akaashi sang and turned to look at Bokuto through his eyelashes. "Can you feel me now?"
He blushes suddenly and the arm around Akaashi tightens a little bit.
Ack-- he's cute. So so cute. Adorable. Best ace 6969/10.
Akaashi grins with a sudden burst of confidence, and Bokuto starts the chorus. "With the taste of your lips I'm on a ride/ you're toxic, I'm slippin' under--"
"--And with the taste of a poison paradise/ I'm addicted to you, don't you know that you're toxic?"
The next part, the two sing together. "And I love what you do, don't you know that you're toxic?"
They stop a second to laugh at themselves, and Kenma can barely be heard over the music as he says, "I hate you both."
---
"That was so cool, Akaash! You really are a good singer!" Hinata jumped up and down, and Kageyama rolled his eyes.
"I call next!" Oikawa jumps up and starts flipping through songs-- probably Marina and the Diamonds honestly.
Bokuto grins a little and puts his arm around Akaashi's waist, obviously proud of him. Akaashi rolls his eyes and bounces up to kiss him on the cheek, earning a look from Kenma as he says, "That's gay."
"We are gay," Akaashi answers. "Hey, Tooru? Are you playing Primadonna?"
Oikawa glances over at Akaashi and winks. "You know it."
"Mind if I sing it with you?"
