Bokuto had been tapping his hand against the checkout counter, not really knowing what to do with no customers, for the past two hours.
It's what always happened at his supermarket that he worked at-- huge amounts of customers during the day, and maybe one during his shift. The night shift.
At least his manager couldn't yell at him(he got kinda scary), but he couldn't help but hate his job a little bit.
There wasn't much to be done, or much attention needed, or anything really. It's part of what annoyed him so much.
He looked up as the doors to the store opened quickly and this boy, maybe his age, half ran over to his checkout and then said in a very calm voice with shattered breathing, "Do you happen to know where the chips are?"
Why is he out of breath? What's going on? What?
I guess this is what happens when you aren't used to customers.
"I-- uh--" The boy looked around the store awkwardly, anywhere but the cashier's face. He took this chance to examine him-- the stranger had messy dark hair, and pale skin and eyes. He couldn't tell exactly what color they were, either blue or green or gray and it depended on the light, but either way they were pretty. And to top all that, he had lomg lashes and the flush to his cheeks was so cute.
He's hot. Holy shit. Like, really really hot. But also cute. Mostly pretty. How.
"My shift is almost over," Bokuto said quietly. The boy grimaced a little bit, biting his lip, and turned his head to the side in a swift motion so that his messy hair swayed a little bit and Bokuto kind of just stared, sitting there, not knowing what to do in front of this really pretty boy.
"I really need those chips. I promise that's all it is, can I--"
"Yeah, um-- y-- yeah. I can help you find them," Bokuto said, and the boy grinned.
"Really? Thanks, you're so sweet," The boy grinned, and Bokuto melted a little bit.
"No issue man, let's go," Bokuto removed himself from the checkout and beckoned the other boy to follow him. He obeyed, and hey both ended up sneaking through the empty store to find the chips, which for some reason, were at the back of the store.
"What kind?" Bokuto asked, and Akaashi looked at all the kinds up on the shelves, a little intimidated.
"Um, I think it was--"
Bokuto didn't get to hear his choice, however, because the lights went off.
"Wait. Oh God," Bokuto jumped up and went to peek at the door. He could see his manager Kenma locking up the store and already walking away.
"What? What is it?" The boy fast walked over with a bag of blue corn chips. "Is the store closed?"
"Yep," Bokuto sighed to release some of the anxiousness bubbling in his stomach. It didn't work. "It's locked inside and out."
There was a tiny silence between them. The boy just looked down at his bag of chips and murmured, "Fuck."
He's even cute when he swears??
---
"Is your phone still dead?" Bokuto asked quietly as they sat next to each other on the floor, backs against the same aisle they were in for an hour. The boy gave him a look that clearly shouted, "Are you actually this retarded?"
"I don't have a charger, so no, of course not," The boy sighed, looking down at his completely dead, useless hunk of metal. "Sorry for asking for the chips, Bokuto-san."
He knows my name?? Okay, maybe I have a name tag but the way he says it is so cute???
"What? Why are you sorry?" Bokuto gave a concerned look through the darkness. "I just didn't get the chips in time, it's my fault."
The smaller boy hugged his knees to his chest and took in a deep breath. Bokuto just looked around awkwardly until he remembered something that was probably pretty important.
"Hey-- I, uh, never got your name."
"It's Akaashi," he mumbled behind his knees.
"Ooh! That's really pretty!"
He didn't say anything in response, and Bokuto got a bit worried. "Hey, are you alright?"
Akaashi let out a little shaky breath, and Bokuto came a little bit closer. "You scared?"
"No."
"Yes you are, I see it on your face."
Akaashi scrunched his face up and hid it in his shirt. "Not anymore," he said in a completely even voice.
"Akaaaashi!"
"I already regret telling you my name!"
"Seriously, if you're feeling nervous, we can do something to pass the time."
Akaashi looked up at him, questioning. "Like what?"
---Next thing Akaashi knew, he was throwing one of the toy balls down the aisle at Bokuto, who only yelled in response.
"Ow, you egg!" He exclaimed, and Akaashi couldn't help but giggle.
"I wasn't the one who wanted to play ball tag in a closed grocery store," Akaashi chuckled, and he could envision the angry look he had at the moment.
He suddenly felt hands on his shoulders, and Akaashi yelped and shouted. "Bokuto-san, that's not fair!"
The employee of the store smacked the rubber ball into Akaashi's hair and they both fell into a pit of laughter. Just right there, in the empty store.
"I thought this was going to be scary, but you're really funny--" Akaashi said between his giggles. Bokuto thought of this guy as someone who didn't laugh much, but even if he did laugh a lot he sure was feeling blessed. "Ahh, I'm still sorry about getting us stuck here!"
"Don't be sorry! I'd rather be stuck here with you rather than anyone else."
Akaashi grinned again and tackled Bokuto with a hug. "Oh my god, you're adorable."
"Akaashi! Wait. Hold on."
"I-- what?"
Akaashi looked up at him, a little worried.
"Uh, w-- would it be rushing things to ask you out?"
Akaashi's face went red immediately, but in a calm voice he said, "Yeah, maybe it is, but I could never say no to that face."
That left Bokuto internally screaming the rest of the night.
