I ambled on until my arms began to feel like they were on fire. I dropped my bags and the tears just let themselves loose. When I got myself together I picked up my bags and dredged on. The market was quiet and dark. I was a little scared. In the next moment I would know why. Two men walked out from behind a building and headed straight for me. Where was Drake when I needed him?
"Hello there lass. What are you doing out here all by yourself?" The first man asked with a broken toothed grin.
"Yeah? Not safe for a pretty little thing like you to be out wondering around alone."
"I assure you, gentlemen, I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself." I said bravely. The men laughed and started walking in circles around me.
"I think I should escort you." The first man said.
"No, I'm fine. Thank you for your concern." I said taking a few steps. The second guy grabbed me around the waist. I screamed out and kicked as hard as I could. The first guy shoved a piece of cloth in my mouth and licked my cheek. All I could do was hope someone heard me scream. I kicked and writhed ferociously.
"Stop that squirming or I'll slit you open like a pig." Said the first guy. I stopped moving. I screamed in my head for Drake to come to my rescue. I should have just stayed with him and I wouldn't have ended up in that mess.
Drake was engrossed in his painting when he heard a sound. He dropped his paints and brush and focused. It got louder and louder. It was Twilight and she was in danger. He bolted for the door and sped through the night.
"I'll never make it." He growled. He stopped and launched himself into the air.
I closed my eyes and waited for the worst. Nothing happened for a few breaths, then a hand was on her face. I had to think fast. I bit the hand and dropped to my knees and crawled away as fast as I could.
"Twilight, wait! It's me, Drake." He yelled after saying a few choice curse words. I stopped and dared a look back.
"Drake? Oh my God! I'm so glad it's you." I ran to him and threw myself into his arms. My tears started again.
"Shh. It's okay now. It's over." He lowered me to my feet and wiped away my tears. "Now. What were you doing here at this time of night?"
I suddenly remembered my bags and looked around. I spotted them on the ground where the initial attack had happened and ran over to gather them up.
"Twilight, what's going on?" Drake asked watching me.
"I left my parents house. I couldn't stay and wait for the day my father killed my mother. I'm going to rent a room at the inn." I said trying not to cry.
"Absolutely not. You're coming home with me. Where you belong." He said taking my bags.
"Drake, no I couldn't. We aren't married. What would people say?" I said starting to panic.
"I don't care. As far as the married part..." Drake lowered my bags, dropped to one knee and pulled out a silk cloth. He took my left hand in his. "Twilight, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" I almost fainted.
"Drake, are you sure? I mean we barely know each other." I whispered.
"If I wasn't sure I wouldn't have asked you, my love." He said laughing.
"Oh my. Oh my. Then, yes, Drake I will marry you." Drake moved the silk cloth and revealed the most beautiful ring I had ever seen and it made my breath catch in my chest. He took the ring and put it on the appropriate finger and it fit perfectly.
