I finally finished this mini-fanfic of mine. Yay.
Two words: I'm cruel.
-----
I don't know how long it has been since Y/N was released from the hospital; she looked better without the bruises and wounds on her arms.
We were in a meadow, together with Andy, Joe and Pete; Y/N was really happy as we try to compete on throwing stones to a pond, seeing who'll make a couple of bounces before the stone sinks.
When I did my turn, I notice Y/N walking away from us. We asked her where she was going, but she didn't respond. However, we followed her, saying that she should come back to us, knowing she doesn't know the rest of the meadow.
We all thought she heard us, as she looked back and smiled. We decided to follow her, but she disappeared completely.
-----
"Y/N!" I shout as I bolt upright on my bed, my tears falling down and my shirt's drenched in my sweat.
It was all a dream. I said in my mind as I held my chest and tried to calm my raging breath.
My attention was caught when blue and red lights flicker from my window. I swallow down the limp on my throat as I found my breath not calming down.
There are a couple of police cars and an ambulance as I peek on the window. What caught my attention was my parents, trying to calm down Maggie, Y/N's younger sister.
I immediately grabbed two cardigans of mine and raced downstairs.
As I began to run, I found my friends staring at me as if they have seen a ghost; they were immobile too.
I started to have a dark feeling in my chest when the police has infiltrated Y/N's residence.
I hung the spare cardigan on Maggie's shoulders the moment I got to their spot.
She was sobbing and her body's shaking as well.
The deafening silence was disturbed when the police pulled Steve out of their house, his shirt was full of blood, so were his hands. He was pleading the police to let go of him.
"It wasn't me! I did not do it to Y/N! I did not do it to her!" He shouts.
I suddenly felt nauseous when the medics pulled a stretcher out of the house, a white cloth on top.
"No!" I groan as I follow them with my sight. I began to walk towards them, praying that it wasn't Y/N.
But then, I recognized the four hand-made bracelets on the wrist.
The friendship bracelets that we made in art class for her.
It was Y/N.
I collapse on my knees as I pull my hair, barely hurting myself. I started to cry when Dad and Pete crouched down next to me, trying to calm me.
-----
The very next day, I didn't want to go to school and see others' false sympathy over Y/N. We used to hate her, but I guess hate doesn't really suit us.
I still feel sick from what happened, knowing that I wouldn't be able to see her again.
I suddenly remembered the stringbag that she gave me. I wonder what's inside as I pull it on my lap.
To my surprise, it's her complete collection of Watchmen, even the latest issue she was reading weeks ago.
I found a bookmark on it, a sign that she hasn't finished reading it.
I pull the bag to my chest, fighting back tears, knowing these are the only remaining memory of hers.
My door creaks open and Maggie walks in. She's still pale and shaken from what happened, but my mother's trying her best to calm her down.
"That's Y/N's right?" She said.
"Yeah," I keep the comic book back and offered it to her.
"If she told you to keep it, then do." She whispers. "I do not know what to do with those. She really loved Watchmen."
I smile at her.
"Umm...breakfast's ready downstairs. I hope you wouldn't mind."
-----
While I was taking my breakfast, the police came and interviewed Maggie. Despite of the horror that she has seen, she has managed to answer every question thay the police was asking.
After finding out what happened between Y/N and Steve, I really wanted to choke him to death.
From Maggie's narration, Steve went home drunk and dragged her back to her room, forcing her to have sex with him, since his spouse is not around.
Maggie was pleading Steve to stop, since he was starting to undress her. On the other hand, Y/N went inside the room, and pulled Steve off her.
Y/N protected her step-sister from the priapic monster that tried to force her. She told Maggie to go and ask for help when Steve pulled Y/N by her shirt and pushed her roughly on the staircases.
Because of Y/N's frail body, her shoulders were really injured and immobilized. Maggie was contemplating to leave Y/N, but she really pleaded her to run and ask for help.
The crucial thing that happened was--Steve stabbing Y/N several times, making her bleed to death.
My hand balls into a fist as I try to contain my anger. On the other hand, my mother tries to ignore the thoughts in her head; to be exact, everyone in this household was shaken.
-----
We have been visiting her grave for consecutive weeks. There are times that I'll sing to her or we'll just read Watchmen aloud to her.
I miss Y/N. I admit. It's not that easy to get over on someone you get attached too.
I even told her what happened to Steve; he was convicted for the gruesome thing he has done. He deserved every inch of his punishment. Margarette? I think she has forgotten her family; her conscience always calls sick and fortunately, Maggie was adopted by Ms. Jenkins, despite the disagreement between the couple and the other family members of Y/N.
I dreamt of her one time. I wasn't able to see her face, but it seemed that she looked well at all.
I remember the post-it that was on one of the pages of her comic book: "See the positivity in one's negativity".
Then, if that's the case...all I know is, Y/N's in a place where she's really happy and no one hurts her, unlike in this world.
