The plane ride was soothingly silent. Taylor stayed up taking to me as late as she possibly could before falling asleep. She had a long day.
This morning I heard her talking to Adam on the phone. I wasn't meaning to listen in on their conversation, it just kind of happened. She sounded really upset.
"Three days." I heard her say and I figured the conversation was about my mission.
"She won't say." He must of asked what I was doing.
"She could get killed for all I know."
"I don't know she says she'll be fine, but who knows."
"I know, but she's fifteen Adam!"
"Okay, thank you, love you too." She said.
I tried to get some sleep too since I had to go to head quarters tomorrow. My sleep didn't last very long, only a few hours, but it was still sleep non the less. We are landing in about two hours.
Taylor woke up within an hour of landing and the rest of her family followed soon behind. It was a private airport so Taylor didn't bother with dressing up. It was still early morning/ night when we were landing so everybody just settled for a snack.
As we started landing Taylor kept looking at me with sad eyes. It was like she would never see me again, but it would only be a few days. I think her family knew she was worried and they tried to make conversation.
Before we got off the plane Taylor was asking me if I had everything I needed. I told her that I had things back in my room at base.
"You've got your phone and everything?" She asked.
She was stalling and we both knew it.
"Yeah, I've got all I need." I said and we finally exited the plane. There were vehicles waiting. A Range Rover with Adam standing in front of it and a black SUV with dark tinted windows that I knew was for me. Taylor's parents and brother were flying home to Nashville.
Taylor went to Adam and they exchanged a hug and a kiss.
"Agent 113." A man in a suit called I turned my attention to him and began to walk to the car.
"Wait up!" Taylor called as Adam and she walked towards me.
"Can I have a moment please?" I asked the driver.
"Make it quick." He grunted.
I nodded an turned to Taylor and Adam.
"I'll be back in three days. I'll be fine."
"I don't doubt that." Taylor smiled weakly.
She pulled me into a tight hug.
"Please be safe." She said into my hair.
"I will." I promised.
She kissed my forehead and held my face in her hands.
"I'll be here as soon as you get back okay? If you can text or call, please do."
"I would, but I can't." I told her.
"Right, just come back in one piece. You've got books to read, shows to watch, and an antisocial cat waiting to see you."
I laughed and nodded.
"Don't forget about me." Adam said and pulled me in for a hug. I tensed.
He rested his hands on my shoulders and bent down slightly to look me I the eyes.
"You come back safe you hear me? If something bad happens to you it's going to break her heart." He whispered.
"I know, I'll be careful."
He patted my back before I glanced once more at Taylor.
"Get in, agent." The man said impatiently.
I got in the car and the door was closed as soon as I was completely in the car. The windows were so deeply tinted it was impossible for Taylor to see me. I could see her though. She looked terrified as Adam held her close to him.
The car was driven to a private airport reserved for government organizations such as ours. There was no conversation between the driver and me. This was the lifestyle I was used to.
I got on the jet that would take me to head quarters in Arizona. The jet was less furnished than Taylor's. I knew it was just a means of transportation, but Taylor's jet put this jet to shame.
I hoped Taylor was handling this okay. Maybe Adam could be her distraction. They seemed comfortable together and I'm sure they needed to catch up on togetherness.
I wondered if Taylor still wanted me to move in. She probably hasn't forgotten about it, but she was trying to give me time to think. Taylor wouldn't want me living with her all the time. If I were to wake up screaming I would wake her too. I've never been woken by someone else from a nightmare before, but I know with my line of work nightmares tend to make people violent. If she tried to wake me I could hurt her.
My personality is boring and cold. She wouldn't want someone like me getting in the way. She has a life and lots of friends who are more like her than I am. Besides, I'm 15 she probably would like to go to clubs with her friends and Adam. Obviously, my badge would allow me into a club, but with me there she might not have as much fun. I couldn't think about this though, I have a serious mission.Taylor's POV
As soon as I got into the car with Adam I lost it. That guy seemed mean that was driving her and I worry that's how all the other people are that work there. She doesn't deserve that.
"Taylor, she'll be fine." Adam said.
"He was mean to her." I sob.
"I don't think he was mean. They don't work at Disney World. They aren't going to sugar coat things and be super nice to everyone."
"I know but he wouldn't even give her much time to say goodbye."
"They had a plane to catch. Don't worry about it so much. I know she'll be okay."
"You know I can't not worry." I sighed.
"I know, but you'll have to get used to this. Maybe you should start treating her more like the other security guards. Just distance yourself from her."
"I'm not going to do that." I scoffed.
"Well look at you. You're a mess because of her and I hate seeing you like that."
"It's not her fault. Don't blame her."
"I'm not blaming anyone I just think distance is a good thing."
"I can't just detach myself from her. In fact she's moving in with me."
Adam's eyes widened.
"What?"
"I asked her to live with me. Her apartments isn't safe. She shouldn't be living alone anyways."
"I think if she can handle working for the government she can handle living alone."
"That's not the point, Adam. She needs stability and friends."
"Send Meredith to live with her." Adam laughed.
"No." I found myself laughing too.
"Look, I worry about her safety too, but I worry about you more."
"Thank you for worrying about me, but I'm okay. She'll be living at my place and it won't stress me out as much."
"And when she goes back then what?"
"I'll deal with that when the time comes, but for now she's mine and I'll make sure she's okay."
"She doesn't belong to you. She's not a dog."
"You know what I mean." I said and lightly shoved his shoulder.
"Yeah, I know baby."
He reached over and grabbed my hand. I'm glad he was here to pick me up. His company made me feel so much better and helped ease my mind. I just pray Alex comes back safe.
