Chapter 1 (Chloe pov)
It's the first day of college at Colton Academy. I'm being taken around on a tour of the grounds by a girl named Katirina Picott. She has chin length curly brown hair with bright green eyes that sparkle with excitement as she talks about the school and what is what and where. Plus, she's my half/step sister.
Yes, I know what you're thinking. "Half/step sister? How so?" Well, I'll tell you. I'm the daughter of a witch and Satan. My twin brother is son of God and Satan. Yes, God is a woman. Simon, my twin, was an honest mistake by them. Our moms had too many drinks that night. And Kat is the sweet daughter of God and a warlock. Kat and Simon also have another sibling. His name is Adam and he is son of God and a human.
You probably won't meet him as he lives in Australia with his actual father and I'm here in Florida.
Also, God is my surrogate mother. My mom would have killed me before my birth had I not been in God's womb.
So, now you know my, uh, family, I guess.Anyways, Kat is taking me down the hall of the dorm rooms.
As we've been walking, I've been thinking of ways on how to ask her about a mark on her upper shoulder. It's in an odd spot, like where a hickey would go, but it doesn't look like one. It looks more like someone scratched or hit her there. I'm really concerned and want to ask, but I'm afraid of her response.
As we near my room, her excitement begins to die down.
"This is your dorm?" She asks, a little bit of fear tinging her voice.
"Um, yeah," I tell her. "Why? Is something wrong?"
Kat shakes her head quickly. She puts on a fake smile that I can see right through. "Nope, everything is all good! Oh, my room is 215, so if you need anything, come and get me! Bye!" She hurries off down the hall and slips into her room 5 doors away on the opposite side of the hallway.
I look at the plaque by the door. 'Room 210' I read.
Oh, by the way, my name is Chloe Richardson. I am 17 years old, almost 18, I am a freshman in college, and I'm considered a low life. I work as a nurse, a suicide hotline receiver, a WWE diva, a therapist, and a judge. Don't ask how I'm all this when I'm only 17. Just don't. I have waist length straight black hair with red streaks. I'm so pale even Snow White is jealous of my skin. My eyes are a dark chocolate brown. You could say I'm ugly, considering I have a pair of think black plastic glasses that cover up most of my acne ridden face.
Kat said that my roommate's name is Alex. She said the name so quietly and filled with fear I almost didn't hear her. It's a very gender neutral name, so I don't know yet if it is a girl or a boy.
I sigh, then open the door to my dorm room, dragging my 2 suitcases in. I glance around the room. Two identical beds sit against opposite walls straight through the door. A window sits between the beds. Between the window and the bed is a nightstand.
The bed on the left side of the window already has an alarm clock, phone charger, earbuds, and an unmade bed. So, I set my stuff on the other bed and continue to look around.
Beside the foot of the bed that Alex has is a door. I open it to see that it leads into the bathroom.
It's a very large bathroom. It has a nice big shower with frosted glass doors and a white curtain, a jacuzzi tub with jets, and a two sink vanity. The mirror above the sink has beautiful frosted edges.
I step out of the bathroom and see a dresser at the foot of my bed. It has 8 drawers, 4 of which have orange tags sticking out of them, so I guess those are for my roommate.
I wonder how mad my roommate would be if I went through their stuff... I think. Well, I don't want to get hurt, so I won't.
I drag my suitcases over to the dresser. I check my phone and see that it is 4:09 pm. I turn on some music and "Human" by Christina Perri comes on. I unzip my bag and begin unpacking while singing along to the song.
By the time I finish unpacking both suitcases, my phone reads 6:23 pm.
I sigh and stand up, shoving my suitcases under my bed. I stretch my arms over my head and yawn.A loud grumbling noise startles me. I laugh a little at myself when I realize it was my stomach.
An almost silent knock comes from the door. I go over and open it. I blink when I see Kat.
"Hey, Kat," I say, pleasantly.
"Hey, Chloe. I was wondering if you would like to come to the cafeteria with me. Since it's dinner time and all," Kat says.
"Yeah, ok," I tell her. I shove my room key into the front pocket of my baggy sweatpants. I walk out the door and close it and we head for the cafeteria.
In a low whisper, Kat asks, "How's Simon?"
Remember what I was telling you about earlier? About my family? Well, Simon, my twin brother had an "accident" occur. He's dead now. His so called "friends" stabbed him in the back. Literally. Killed him instantly.
I remember the gut-wrenching pain, and a scream. Kat moved to this school a year after the incident. The incident was at the end of my senior year. Kat is the same age as me, but she had all her credits done, so she graduated and didn't go back. She did online college for a year, and then she got into here. Now, a year after she did that, I got accepted. Simon, Kat, Adam, and I were really close when we were growing up. We all know who our parents are, but choose not to acknowledge them. It's too complicated for us. We know we don't belong, but we stayed for the sake of Adam."Simon's ok," I reply back to Kat.
Her gaze falls to the floor."I know you would love to go see him again," she says quietly.
"Yeah, but I just got here. So let's just eat! I'm starving!" We laugh when my stomach growls loudly in agreement.
We open the cafeteria doors and my mouth drops to the floor. There are 4 long tables made of mahogany, with benches on both long sides. The tables have an array of food on them.
Kat whispers in my ear, "The plates refill themselves."
My eyes widen. I look at her. "Are you serious?!"
She nods. "You can also just think of what you want to eat or drink and it will magically appear on your plate."
I start getting really excited and practically drag Kat to a table. No one else is here but us.She giggles as I plop down on the end of one of the benches. She sits next to me on the inside of the bench. I reach for a bag of chips. My eyes widen and I yank my hand back to my body quickly when my hand passes through the bag.
Kat bursts out laughing and falls off the bench backwards, clutching her stomach and turning a shade of bright red in her face.
I cross my arms and give her a serious look.
After her laughing fit is over, and her face turns back to its normal shade, somewhat, she gets back onto the bench next to me.
"The food out is just holographic. You just need to think of what you want and it appears," Kat tells me.
"Thanks," I mutter. I think of my favorite meal, and my plate fills up instantly with a large cheese pizza, extra cheese. "Whoa!" I say in amazement.
Kat giggles. "Yeah, it's cool. Now, think of a drink."
I think of the first drink to come to mind.
My cup makes a popping sound, and then a pouring sound as a purple liquid fills up my cup. I take a hesitant sip. I grin. Grape juice.
"I love this place!" I exclaim.
Kat beams. I smile back at her.
Then I see the smile drop from her face, her eyes roll into the back of her head. Her head drops onto the table, rattling the glassware and silverware.
"Kat?!" I ask, shaking her arm.
"Awww! Looks like the Kat of the school fell asleep," a feminine, snobbish, and high pitched voice says loudly from behind us. I turn around and resist the urge to roll my eyes
