Chapter 23.5 **Marianne's pov**
Quick note: if you guys are confused about this character, this is Alex's mother
I'm sitting in the living room of my husband, Jace, knitting blankets of various colors. Darren is in the kitchen, baking cookies.
I'm not allowed to do much since my accident of when my "husband" Robert was killed. My mind kind of snapped, and I lost control of myself. For the past 5 years, I've been trying to regain myself. With the help of my husband and sons, I'm doing better now.
Speaking of, my son, Alex, is coming over with his mate and his little brothers, Jack and John.
When the doorbell rings, Jace is running for the door, telling me to stay put. I smile after him and wait like the good wife I am. I was only bad once. And I can still feel the scar over my heart.
I hear the pitter patter of my twin boys running to find me.
"Boys!" Jace barks. "Slow down!"
Their noisy footsteps go silent. Then I see my beautiful twins turn the corner and grin widely at me.
"Mommy!" They cry, running over to me.
"Hello, my little babies," I say, hugging them to my bosom. "How are you?"
"We're good!" Jack says.
"Kat's been taking good care of us!" John says.
"She's going to be our sister!" They say in unison.
"Oh?" I reply, turning my face up to see Alex and his mate enter the room with Jace.
"Yeah, but you won't see her today," Alex says, smiling at his brothers. "Mama, this is my mate, Chloe Richardson. Chloe, this is mi mama, Marianne."
Chloe comes over and shakes my hand. "It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Davila," she says, politely.
"Please, just call me Mama," I tell her, smiling.
She smiles. "Of course, Mama." She looks almost pained when she says the last word. I sense she's lost hers or something else has happened.
I decide to change the subject.
"Would anyone like some cookies?" I ask, nodding at Jace to go get them.
The boys eagerly nod, as Alex plants himself next to me on the couch. Chloe sets herself on his lap. I smile at them as he wraps his arms around her waist.
She's not skinny, but she's not fat, either. It looks like he's been feeding her some of my old recipes that I used to make before my breakdown.
Jace comes out with the cookies and hands everyone one. They take a bite and moan in unison.
"Have you gotten better at making these, Papi?" Alex asks, receiving a confused/shocked look from Chloe.
Jace beams with pride. "Yes, I have, actually, Al. I've been testing different recipes, as well," he says, his chest swelling with pride.
I giggle at his display. "Go get the other cookies, honey," I say.
He nods, still smiling.
"Aly, I thought you-" Alex cuts Chloe off.
"I did, but I still call him Papi because he's an amazing one," he tells her.
"Ah, ok," she says, understanding.
Jace comes back out and hands everyone more cookies.
Chloe inhales them, one right after the other.
Alex leans over and whispers to me, "She's eating for 4."
My eyes widen and I turn to face him fully. "Are you serious?" I ask, shocked.
He nods with a smile. "Triplets," he says, rubbing her abdomen gently.
"How far along is she?" I ask.
"4 months along," Chloe replies, shoving another cookie into her mouth.
"So about 5 more months, then you can hold your grandbabies," Alex tells me, a wide smile on his face.
I kiss their cheeks. "Te deseo lo mejor de la vida, mis hijos (I wish you the best in life, my children)," I whisper to them.
They smile at me. "Thank you, Mama," they say in unison.
Jace sits next to me, wrapping his arm around my waist. Jack and John sit in our laps, smiling.
This is the best thing that I could ever hope for since the accident...
