Chapter 28

Chapter 28 **Chloe's pov**

I'm still in shock.

Why did it have to happen the night of my birthday? How could he do something like that to someone like me? I mean, it was my birthday, so how could he?

Maybe I should pull back and explain what happened. Alex, the guy who was my boyfriend, made me cry at my party, on my birthday. Let me show you how it happened...

**Flashback**

Alex and I stood at the dj stand in the front of the room. He had his arm draped around my shoulders in a protective way that made me feel safe.

As I snuggled into his side, Alex looked down at me and kissed my head.

"Hey, Chloe," he finally said.

I looked up at him, wondering what he was gonna tell me. He rubbed the back of his neck, looking embarrassed and awkward. I'd never seen this side of him before. He'd always been collected and had an aura of "bad boy" surrounding him. But this aura showed nervousness and fear.

"Yes, Alex?" I asked.

He looked at me, then pulled himself apart from me. "I've been thinking about this for a while now. I know we've been together since we found out we were destined to be together and all, and we know each other like the back of our hands..."

Fear slithered up my spine, paralyzing my movements. I stared at him in shock.

"I know this is kinda sudden, and I know it's your birthday..."

No, please...Don't say what I think you're going to say... Tears slowly creeped into my eyes.

"I really like you, Chloe. I really do. But..."

Here it comes...

"I don't want to be your boyfriend anymore."

Tears rushed down my cheeks in waves as I stared at him. He lied to me. He said we would be together forever. He lied.

He handed me a tissue box, which I took from him rather forcefully. I mean, who wouldn't? The guy you love just broke up with you and is handing you a box of tissues. Really?

I started grabbing tissues and dabbing at my tears to make them stop, but they kept coming. Once I've taken a bunch of tissues out of the box, I noticed a small, black velvet box, which caused me to drop the tissue box in shock.

I looked up at Alex in shock. "Alex..." I croaked. "Is this some sick joke?" Tears began to well up in my eyes again.

He got down on one knee and looked up at me, picking up the ring box.

"No, Chloe, this is serious. I only said I don't want to be your boyfriend anymore because I want to be your husband forever. I want to be the guy you lean on when you need it. I want to be the one you come to when you cry. I want to make you laugh and smile and be happy. All because of these three magical little words: I Love You."

Tears slid down my face as he opened the ring box and showed me a beautiful diamond set onto a black ring. There were smaller diamonds set along the edge of the larger diamond, which made the ring that much more beautiful.

"Chloe Richardson, will you do me the greatest honor of all and marry me?" He asked with a smile on his face.

I snatched the ring from him and slid it onto my finger before flinging myself into his arms, kissing him as hard as I could. He held me close as he matched my intensity.

We pulled apart, out of breath.

"Yes, I will marry you," I whispered. A large smile spread across his adorable face.

He jumped up, with me still holding onto him, and yelled, "SHE SAID YES!"

I still can't believe it. Every time I look at my hand, I see the beautiful ring that he gave me. Along the bottom of it, I see he has engraved my name into it for me. My heart swells in happiness.

My family will be complete with him. We'll have kids together, be happily married, and live together forever. He makes me so happy.

I'm so thankful for this man, who's sleeping beside me. He's had a long day of congratulations. I've been stroking his hair since he fell asleep. He's given me such happiness and I don't know how to repay him, except for accepting his proposal. It's insane how far we've come in the few short months of finding each other.

I'm so happy.
