The drive back to the Curtis House was silent, but not the bad kind. The occasional curses thrown caused by road rage and beeps of cars were the ones that filled the silent air. The old, worn down house finally came into view, making me anxious to get out of the car.
"Just promise me one thing. Be careful around socs, don't be afraid to fight back. Please Riley," Dallas said, stopping Buck's car in front of the house. There was a pleading look in his eyes.
I suddenly became very interested in my hands, looking down not making any eye contact with Dally. "Of course," I said, almost in a whisper since it was so quiet. "You know that Dally, you know I'll fight back."
He sighed, slumping in his seat. "I know, you're my little sister. I don't know man. If anything happens to you..." Dallas trailed off, not finishing his sentence. It was suddenly quiet again.
I looked up, pulling Dallas close to me and wrapping my arms around him. "Don't worry big bro, nothing will happen to me." I said, reassuring him.
"Alright," He said, starting to smile again. "Get in there before Darry starts wondering where you are."
"See ya later Dal," I said, smiling. I opened the door, stepping out of car and to the sidewalk. He waved, driving away probably heading back to Buck's.
I opened the gate, walking towards the front door when Darry opened the door. He was carrying a bunch of tools and he look like he was struggling. I walked up to him, deciding to help Darry. "Hey Darry, let me help you with that." I said, grabbing some of the tools that were about to fall off his hands.
"Thanks Riley," Darry said, breathing a sigh of relief. "Where were you anyways? You were out the whole day."
"Oh ya know, just went out with Pony and Johnny. Visited Dally then went out to get some lunch." I said, leaving out the part of Randy, Bob, and the Richy guy. Basically the part were I hung out with socs. After a few steps, we stopped in front of Darry's truck.
"Alright, I'll take it from here. Go wash up inside, dinner's almost ready." Darry said and smiled at me while placing the tools in his truck.
I walked back inside, slamming the front door in the process. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Two-Bit looked up, who were all watching Mickey Mouse which was playing on the TV. "Hey, where were you?" Two-Bit asked, taking a swig of his beer.
"Just hanging around with Dally," I said and smiled. I sat next to Ponyboy and let my head fall to his shoulders. I took a deep breathe and let my body relax.
"Tired?" Pony asked who chuckled lightly, adjusting his shoulders to make me a little bit more comfortable.
"Yeah," I nodded my head, yawning in the process.
"Told you, you should've just came back home with us." Pony said, smirking.
"Oh shut up, I ain't the one who wanted to be stuck with the person who kept complaining about how they didn't have any time to finish Gone with the Wind." I retorted, playfully rolling my eyes.
Ponyboy shook his head and laughed, "Oh shut up."
"Guys, dinner's ready!" Darry said, grabbing our attention, walking through the door.
We all stood up, except for Two-Bit, who ran to the kitchen.

We were all in the middle of dinner until Sodapop came in. "Hey Dar, sorry I'm late. Me and Steve were working on this car and it just took forever." Sodapop said, coming in and slamming the front door in the process. "Oops, sorry." Soda gave a sly grin.
Darry shook his head, "It's fine, we saved some chicken for you."
Sodapop plopped down in the seat next to me and grinned, "Thanks Dar."
"Well, I'm done eating. I'll just be in my room if you need me." I said then placed my plate in the sink. I went to my room, closing the door, and throwing myself on my bed. I sighed then closed my eyes. Finally, some peace and quiet. I'm gonna drift off to sle-.
knock knock
My eyes instantly shot wide open, cursing the person who disturbed my sleep. I got up slowly, walking towards my door. I opened it to see Sodapop with a nervous expression plastered to his face. "Soda, you okay?" I asked, opening the door a little bit more for him to come in. He came in quietly and sat on the edge of my bed. "Seriously Soda, what's up? You're scaring me."
After a few seconds of silence he asked, "Why were you hanging out with the socs?" He finally looked up with a curious expression, but not mad or disappointed.
"Well, this might come out as a surprise but they're the only socs I can stand and I consider them my friends." I said, whispering out the last few words. "Bob and Randy are the only socs who are nice to me and this afternoon, they actually defended me from another soc."
"Yeah I know, isn't the guy named Richard or something?" Soda asked but instantly had a look of regret in his eyes.
"Wait, what? How do you know that?" I asked quickly, getting my attention.
"Oh um, well during my lunch break..." Sodapop started out. "...I went to Dairy Queen. You walked in but I saw you with Randy and Bob, the socs. I thought you were in trouble but I soon later realized that you were laughing with them." He paused. "Just be careful around them, alright?" Soda said with the look of care in his eyes.
My gaze softened, "Don't worry I will, plus I already had this whole conversation with Dally even though it was more of like a lecture from him." I said, laughing.
"Alright, it's just cause you're like the little sister I never had." Sodapop grinned, giving me his signature smile.
