You spin round fast on the bench. You thought you heard Dan. No-one.
It makes sense now, you're just a fan. But why do I feel like this if I am. I can't say I love him, it's been too soon. I've known him for a month. I'm a stupid bitch. I can't believe I got into this, I've ruined everything, I should have stayed with Jim and mum. Coming to London was a mistake and I've let Dan and Phil suffer for it. I'm so selfish. So rude. So horrible.
I can't let them suffer for me.
You take out your phone and write a very short and simple text.
Dan, I can't explain what came over me. I can't be with someone I don't love. Sorry Xxx
You need Dan and Phil to be friends again, let Dan hate me not Phil.
You write on for Phil.
I sorted it, make up with Dan. He needs you, not me. I took the blame so you don't have to. Bye Xxx
With that you hail a taxi and drive 'home' back to Manchester.
You gaze out of the window, 'one step ahead' by a great big world blazing in your ears.
Every cloud reminds you of Dan.
(car songs.)
Greek tragedy by the wombats
One step ahead by a great big world
Be your shadow by the wombats
Your body is a weapon by the wombats
A crap tonne of paramore
Say something by a great big world
Here comes the anxiety by the wombats
And, oasis by a great big world.
(narrator)
Each bird and tree that catches your eye seems sadder, greyer and duller.
The world looks so bleak now.
A tear travels down your cheek and a sob catches in your throat. The driver sees you.
He frowns and asks about you. You explain everything from the 10th December until this morning.
By the end the tears are not rain drops they're waterfalls. You are barely understandable. He pulls into a layby and turns to you.
"Listen sweetheart, you don't seem like the disloyal type to me and I've met lots. I think you should turn back before you regret it. Don't let him get away, he will, I've seen his face. He's a looker, he'll move on eventually. Do you want to watch him replace you?" He says wisely.
"I hit him with my door, then I hit him with my heart..." You mutter.
You nod, "take me back please." You agree.
He says it's free of charge. By now it's 7pm. You two were talking on the motorway for hours. You just vented to him and you feel so much better.
You have about 70 texts from Phil.
"I love you, please, stop!"
Nothing from Dan.
You wipe your tear away before it falls.
Your song ends as you see the London eye in the distance glistening against the navy, night sky.
You see boats on the Thames and cars flooding the roads, you are home again.
He agrees to drop you off at Hyde park. You reluctantly exit the taxi not before hugging the driver.
"Thank you!" You sang.
"No problem, see you around." He waved.
You were alone again.
The breeze tingled down your legs and numbed your feet.
You slumped down onto a bench.
Your phone hums.
It's Dan: I don't believe you.
You aren't sure how to respond.
You drift of to sleep. You wake up to hands shaking you vigorously.
"Y/N, get up!" Zoe shouted.
"I've been looking for you for hours, Phil's worried... He told me everything. Where were you?" She said.
You tell her about the taxi driver and running through London alone ect.
She pulls you into a hug, it's been so long since you've seen her. You've grown a lot since last time. You've been through a lot since last time...
