I wish I'd got to know you better

Holly's POV
As we walked to the Palace, I could see Caitlin's excited expression turn to a confused one. Then I realised I had never told her I lived in this Palace and I was a princess.
"Holly, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but why are we at the Royal Palace? I'm pretty sure you don't live here." She asked,
"Actually, this is my house. It has been my whole life." I chuckled I response but abruptly stopped when I saw how guilty Caitlin looked.
"Holly, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to be rude-"
"Caitlin, it's fine. I honestly don't care one bit." I assured her and placed my hand gently on her shoulder. She gave me a small smile and we walked up to the Palace gates together. The guard smiled at me, ready to welcome me in but his smile dropped when he noticed Caitlin,
"Your Majesty, who is this?" He sounded like he thought she was following me home. This made me snort accidentally which caused Caitlin to giggle.
"Sebastian, don't worry. This is Caitlin and she's a friend of mine." Sebastian's smile then returned but looked a bit more apologetic than usual as he started saying to Caitlin he's sorry if he sounded over protective and judgemental. Caitlin told him this was ok and Sebastian opened up the Palace gates.

Caitlin's POV
"So Dan's in here?" I asked uncertainty. Holly nodded. I took a deep breath in. "Ok, it's now or never." I mumbled to myself. Holly and I were walking to Dan's room as we could hear Attack on Titan playing from his door which meant he was watching it. He must've been given an early finish today. We were just about to knock on the door when the King walked past and gave me and Holly a quizzical look.
"Holly, who's your friend?" He asked his daughter
"Oh, this is Caitlin. She's a friend of mine and Lorna's and I invited her back to stay with us tonight. Is this ok?" She gave me a look as if to say play along so I did as I was told. The King smiled and held a hand out to me. "Hello, Your Majesty." I did a polite curtesy before shaking his hand. "It's a pleasure to have you with us tonight, Caitlin." He smiled and walked to the throne room. We finally turned to Dan's door and knocked on it.
"Come in!" Him and Phil cheerfully shouted. We opened the door to find Dan and Phil sat on the bed watching anime and eating snacks. "Dan, Phil, this is Caitlin."

Dan's POV
Caitlin. Caitlin. That name sounded familiar. I'm sure I've heard of a Caitlin before. She looks familiar, too. She looks like someone who I knew a long time ago but then drifted away from me. I remember what it felt like. It felt like I had lost a part of me. I think I knew a Caitlin. The Caitlin I knew was my best friend. Before she left me, still wondering what I did wrong to this day. Suddenly, I saw Holly exchange a glance at Phil and nod towards the door, signalling for them two to leave. This left me and Caitlin alone. She sat next to me on my bed.

Caitlin's POV
This was it...

Dan's POV
For some reason, she took a deep breath in. I don't see why, I'm pretty sure I'm not that scary to talk to. I was going to ask why she was breathing so heavily when she spoke,
"Dan, listen, there's something I need to tell you..."
"I'm listening." I was confused. What did she want to tell me so badly?
She took another deep breath. What is with the deep breaths? And finally said, after what felt like centuries of silence,
"Dan, I'm your sister." I was speechless. That's when I realised where I knew her from. She was the one who was my first ever best friend. She helped me through everything. She was the first person I ever came out as gay to. But then she stopped talking to me and my parents and I've been blaming myself for all these years. I couldn't believe that she had the nerve to cut off contact with me for about 12 years then come back into my life like nothing had happened. That's not how things work
"Get out of my room." I said, emotionlessly. She gave a guilty sigh and left.

Caitlin's POV
His only reaction was telling me to get out of his room. I didn't blame him to be honest. It was wrong of me to just leave him all those years ago and just come back like them times didn't exist. I just wish I'd got to know him better.
