Chapter 19

“The other Dustin. You look stupid like that.” She said while wiping the tears off her face.

“Oh.”

“Ya. Wear that again and I won’t talk to you that day.”

“So...friends?”

“Friends.” She said while smiling.

We got out of the bus and walked over to Allie and Con. “Would you like to go to the dance together.”Allie asked Con.

“What about Derrick?”

“Dustin and I have that figured out.” She said while glancing at me. “What are you wearing?” She asked.

“I used to be a nerd and I was in the mood to dress like my old self.”

“Ok then.” She said while looking back at Con. “So…”

“I will pick you up at 6:15.”

“Yaay. I’m excited.” Allie said while jumping.

Derrick came over. “Excited for what?”

“Umm…”

“Derrick over here!” Courtney yelled from her group of friends.

“Ill be right back.” He said as he turned around and jogged over to them.

We all decided to follow and see what they were saying.

“So are we still going to the dance on Friday?” Courtney asked.

I looked over at Allie she had a shocked expression on her face.

“Oh course we are.” He said as he leaned in and kissed her.

Allie looked disgusted.

We creped away slowly. “Looks like he wont be sad that I don’t want to go with him anymore.” Allie said while shrugging. “He’s a total two timer.”

I knew she still wanted revenge.

I wanted to walk home today instead of taking the bus. Dustin didn’t want me to go by myself so he offered to walk with me. I accepted.

“Do you believe in magic?” Dustin asked.

“What kind of question is that?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, I know magic is real.”

“How?”

“Umm…Is your mom ok?” I asked to avoid telling him about my diary.

“I called home after school today and Sophia said her surgery isn’t done yet.”

“Oh.”

“Do you believe in magic?” He asked me again.

“I already answered. Do you believe in magic?” I asked turning the tables.

“Ya.”

“Really?”

“Ya. I promised Sophia I would always believe in magic and I can’t lie to a kid.”

“That’s nice.”

“I guess. Have you ever lied to a child?” He asked me.

“Well…there was this one time I told him if he gave me $20 I would grant him a wish.”
