"He'll never change Mackenzie. You and I both know you deserve better." Mackenzie's best friend Audrey Holloway tried to reason.
"I know, but every time I see him, I just know. I just know there is something beyond all of this high school oriented drama." Mackenzie said, looking back down at her semi-soggy turkey sandwhich.
Audrey sighed and shook her head. Mackenzie had had the same argument ever since they first became friends in 9th grade.
They sat in the cafeteria at a table with aproximately 5 other people. Every few seconds, Mackenzie would crane her head up and look to see if Tyler had waltzed in. She hadn't seen him since that day she had just narrowly escaped losing a drop of her sanity that she really didn't need to lose.
And honestly, she wanted him to walk in there and try to explain himself. Because now she was worried, and was thinking about asking Chasity if he was ok.
She was looking over at the entrance to the cafeteria when she felt someone slide in next to her. Her heart raised slightly, but dropped just as fast when she realized it was Kevin Hoggard. He was nice, but he gave her these freaky deaky I-masturbate-to-your-face kind of vibe.
"Hey Mackenzie." he said politely.
"Hey Kevin, what's up?" Mackenzie asked as she stuffed her face with bread, mayo, and turkey.
She got that sixth sense feeling that she has always had when someone was about to ask her out.
"So, are you going to the movies to see Nightmare Friday per chance?" he asked, trying to seem suddle.
Oh dear Jesus. she thought in her head. She hated rejecting people. She looked at Audrey with plea in her eyes, but Audrey just smiled deviously down at her lunch.
"Ummm......." she trailed, trying to find something as to avoid the question. She looked around anxiously.
That's when she saw him, and every single drop of blood rose to her face as she watched his eyes analyze the scene in front of him from the entrance.
He got that determined look on his face, his lips screwed into a harsh pucker and his eyes squinted slightly.
He was jealous.
He kept his eyes locked on Mackenzie's as he strode over to the table, his long as hell legs moving quickly.
"Excuse me," he said as he came up from behind Kevin "That's my seat."
"Well, I'm just asking her something."
Oh no. Mackenzie thought.
Tyler got a mischevious glint in his eyes and actually tried to pick him up.
"Dude! What the hell!" he shouted as he shook Tyler off of him.
"Don't pretend like you don't like it." Tyler said with a smirk.
"Fag." Kevin muttered and stalked away with an embarassed air.
"Was that really nessacary?" Mackenzie asked as Tyler took his seat.
"Yes. Yes, it is." Tyler said, mocking her really? expression.
Mackenzie chuckled and shook her head.
Audrey looked at the two of them as they bantered back and forth and at that moment she saw it.
That twinkle in Mackenzie's eyes and the way her face had lit up as soon as she had seen Tyler.
That sparkle in Tyler's eyes as soon as he started laughing and smiling at all of Mackenzie's corny one liners.
He loved her.
He really did.
