"You did not do that, Mackenzie Holly Lowly." Audrey yelled.
Mackenzie shushed her as they walked past on-looking teachers who glared at her outburst.
"You are such a liar." Audrey said softer.
"I really did." Mackenzie confirmed with a blank expression.
Audrey studied her eyes. Mackenzie wanted nothing more than to get her sudden strive at self-preservation off her chest. She didn't know whether or not Audrey would try and harp on it but she was the only person she could tell and know it was safe.
"Wow. Mackenzie Lowly is finally doing something for herself." Audrey said with a soft smile.
Mackenzie smirked as she kept stride. After a moment of silence, the ice was broken,
"It's killing you isn't it."
"Pretty much."
Audrey shook her head slowly. Mackenzie knew that Audrey didn't understand the way she felt about Tyler. Audrey was the kind of girl who has had her crushes, but that's exactly what they were. Crushes. She even admitted herself that she had never fell in love with anyone.
"Listen, Mack, Tyler's a good guy on the inside and all....but on the surface, he just isn't good for you. You deserve better." Audrey explained, almost begged.
"I know that." Mackenzie admitted solemnly.
Mackenzie was truthfully, however, the one who didn't understand. How could you have so many memories with someone, and give them all up for the hopes of a better life without them? What if your life got worse without them there?
Because in all honesty, Mackenzie couldn't picture a life that was worth living without Tyler.
"But, this is good. You're moving on." Audrey said, trying to lighten up the dim mood.
"I feel like he never even cared about me..." Mackenzie replied.
"Yeah." Audrey said softly and patted Mackenzie on the back.
"You're getting better though Mack." she said persistently.
"Audrey," Mackenzie said and finally looked directly into her eyes "I would rather die than feel this way."
"No, you can't die!" Audrey said and jokingly grabbed onto Mackenzie's shoulders.
Mackenzie laughed and replied with "never". For the time being, Mackenzie would have to keep living.
