Tylers eyes searched everywhere as Mark tried to tell him about his weekend. As interesting as Mark's weekend with his parents was, Tyler was trying to scope Mackenzie.
He hadn't seen her except for once coming out of the bathroom. She had saw him and put her head down. She jogged back down the hall before Tyler could even say her name. Tyler's eyes finally landed on the only figure that had long brown hair with red running through it.
"Mack!" Tyler shouted loudly through the crowd of people.
Luckily he was taller than most, so it was hard to miss him. Mackenzie turned around and as soon as she laid eyes on Tyler, moved faster through the people.
Shouldering and apologizing. Tyler's long legs moved quickly to get to her. Her bouncing hair coming more into sight.
The image of Mackenzie's eyes stayed lodged in Tyler's head. Like a deer caught in headlights.
He came in reaching distance of her and extended his long arm over someone's head and grabbed her thin shoulder.
"Mack, we need to talk." he said.
She turned her head slowly around to meet his expression.
"Can't. Going to class now Tyler." she said emotionlessly.
He frowned and let go of her shoulder as if she had shocked him. A flash of pain ran through her face, but it contorted back into the indifferent face she had worn. Tyler just frowned and watched as she turned her body back around and stalked off to her class.
She was halfway there when Tyler ran over, ignoring the few people that were left. He held her shoulder again. It was all too slow whenever she faced him again.
"No. We need to talk. Now." he said firmly.
Mackenzie looked at him silently for a long time. Just trying to figure out if she was making one mistake after another.
"Fine." she said grimly.
Tyler tried to hold in his pride at winning. He nodded and said "Follow me."
They walked down the hallway in a tense atmosphere. Tyler's eyes sliding over to Mackenzie every now and than. Her eyes dead set foward. Her mouth screwed into a tight line, in fact, her whole face was pinched in anger.
Tyler lead them into the courtyard, which Mackenzie had always thought to be the most beautiful place in the school. Mackenzie crossed her arms over her chest and walked down the gravel path. Stopping abruptly at the end of it and turning on her heal.
A look of expectation on her face.
"Mack, I know your mad at me and everything, but you gotta listen to me. I was taking a different route and I was just so happy.." he trailed off. Realizing exactly how stupid he really sounded.
"Tyler Noah Landry! Do you really expect me to believe that shit?" she spat with rage.
"Yes! I really do! Because it's the truth Mack!" he shouted.
"No. Do you want me to tell you the real truth. You were all hung up because you got some rebound ass! So, of course your just on your high horse about getting another slut! You really think she's any different from the other ones?! You know she isn't!" she yelled back.
"Mackenzie, you aren't one to talk. You don't know what it feels like to be chewed up and spat out so many times. You just start not to care for a while." he said with a angry laugh.
She stared at him in true disbelief, "You think.........you think I don't know what's it like to be heartbroken? Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubble Tyler! Because I DO!" she said, the flames in her eyes growing.
"Really? Okay. By who?" he said sarcastically.
Mackenzie's lip quivered. "You're a fucking joke to those girls, Tyler. Wake UP! They don't give two fucks about you!" she said loudly, scathingly.
"At least I put myself out there! I haven't seen you with a boyfriend since we were 13! You don't even know what you're talking about," he said "Go back to your books Mack. You're better off."
Mackenzie's face drained before Tyler's eyes. There was not a single trace of anything left except for pure, raw sorrow.
Tyler immediately regretted saying those things to Mackenzie. She didn't deserve that, and he had just made things worse instead of fixing them. But, he didn't say he was sorry.
Mackenzie walked up and put her face only 2 inches from Tyler's.
"You listen to me and listen to me loud and clear. Because I will not say this again. Don't. Come. Crying. To. Me. When. She. Fucks. You. Over." she said bitingly, and walked past him into the school.
Tyler's chest filled up with something. Sadness? It was hard to breathe. His vision was getting blurry, his heart felt like it was ticking slower than a bomb. Tick Tick Tick..........Tick......Tick....Tick.
"Mack!" he wheezed as loud as he could.
"Mack!"
"Jesus Christ! Tyler!" he heard a sensational voice say.
Everything was fading around him. Including the only thing that ever stayed long enough to put up with his sorry ass.
