'Yvonne, I- I'm not sure this is a good idea.' I said as I hesitated in front of my own house. She gave my hand a gentle squeeze.

'Trust me. It's better to get it over with as soon as possible. Because he will find out pretty soon. You can't evade your dad forever.' Her words did nothing to dampen the bundle of nerves that was currently acting as butterflies in my stomach. I was going to confront my dad about possibly being a vampire. Not something a normal teenager would do on a regular Monday.

'Are you sure you can't come with me?'

'You'd best do this alone. I'll come back later tonight.' She replied before placing a light kiss to my cheek and disappearing out of sight. I let out a defeated sigh before unlocking the front door.

Luckily, this was one few days were dad finished his work early at the station and was home an hour before mom. I had a feeling this would take more than an hour to sort through though. I mean, how would I even begin the conversation?

'Oh, hi dad! I've just turned into a pureblood vampire. Turns out I get that from your side of the family. Is there something you wanna tell me?'

Yeah... Probably not the wisest of choice of words. Yvonne did say he would recognize me as a vampire the moment he walked in. I paced around nervously in the house. He was supposed to be home like 20 minutes ago. The waiting was agonizing.  Then I finally heard dad's car start to pull up in the drive way and I hurriedly made my way back to the living room.

'I'm home.' He greeted as he walked through the front door.

'You're late. Held up at the station?' Was the first thing that spilled out of me. Well at least I was still somewhat calm enough to chat like a normal being.

'Yeah, paperwork's been building up with all these new... cases...' He came into the living room with a tired smile but instantly froze once his gaze fell upon me.

'I think we need to talk.' In an instant his green colored eyes flashed to red and his face contorted into anger. I pretty much already knew it was him but it still surprised me. My dad was a vampire. That's something I definitely wouldn't have believed a few months ago.

'Dammit. I should've known it was a rogue vampire on the prowl. Those attacks weren't normal.' He seethed through gritted teeth.'He came here, to our house and attacked you?!' I meekly nodded.

'When?' Oh, he was not gonna like the answer.

'Remember when Ashley was hospitalized?'

'That long ago? Claire, why didn't you say anything?'

'Because at first I thought it was just a dream and so did mom! That's what everyone thought. That it was a freak coincidence!'

'A turning does't take months to complete... The vampire came back for you?' Again, I nodded before replying.

'Multiple times. Apparently my blood has a special taste that gave Malik his strength back.'

Oh shit.

Why ease into the subject when I can cannonball into it by mentioning the one thing I probably shouldn't have mentioned just yet. I just had to speak before I could gather my thoughts. Really smart, Claire.
