(19) Trying To Find The Clues

The next few days started to blur together. Going between school, my powers rapidly growing and searching for clues on how to free Aiden. So far the two first options were going relatively great. The last one... Not so much.

'Is my skin supposed to feel like it's boiling?' I asked and pulled the arms on my coat back down over my hands so the rays of the sun could no longer reach them. We were heading home to me to "study". More like reading through lots of useless myths about vampires.

Or well, it was a great learning experience for me. Yvonne taught me all about what myths were correct and which of them weren't. Like the extreme allergy to garlic. Apparently that one was true. Even just smelling it could send vampires reeling away.

'You're skin is just really sensitive. It will get better. You just have to endure it for a while.' Yvonne commented as she handed me her gloves to wear.

'Thanks.' I replied and quickly slipped them on. 'I just hope it gets better before summer. I don't wanna go around looking like a tomato.' That earned me a chuckle from her.

'I'm serious! You didn't see me when I was trying to tan as a human. I got all red and my tan just came in patches. So horrible. Not to mention the freckles that pops up.'

'Oh my gosh, I would love to see you with freckles! I bet you look even cuter.' Her whole face brightened up as she spoke. My face started to heat up. Wow, it took that little for her to make me blush.

'Only good part about looking like a tomato is that you can't see me blush so easily.'

'I think I'll be able to tell anyways. You usually get so flustered when you blush. It's so cute.'

'Aww, Yvonne... Don't make it worse.'

'Im sorry. I'm just teasing you.' She grinned and I could see that she was not all that apologetic about it. I let out a huff of breath, trying to get my face to stop blushing.

'I'm home!' I yelled as soon as we entered. I didn't expect anyone to reply, so it came as a great surprise when my twin brothers suddenly emerged from the living room.

'Joey? James? What are you guys doing home?' I asked, still feeling taken aback.

'We heard that a lot of strange things had been happening around here lately so we came home to check up on our favorite little sister." Joey replied before both of my brothers eyes fell upon Yvonne.

'Don't believe we've met before. I'm Joey.'

'And I'm James. Don't worry if you get us mixed up. Happens a lot.' They said as they introduced themselves.

'I'm Yvonne, so nice to finally meet you.

'So why are you guys here when you could have a nice date outside in the sunny weather?' James teased.

'Cause, unlike some people, we actually have to study. We'll be in my room.' And that was probably the worst thing I could've said.

'Aaaah, riiiight. Study, gotcha. Want us out of the house or?' Joey winked and nudged my side.

'Oh my god, really Joey?' To say I felt mortified was an understatement. Yvonne was doing a poor job behind me to stifle her giggles. 'Don't encourage them or we'll never hear the end of it.' My face was positively aflame again. I couldn't understand why everyone liked teasing me so much. I saw that James were itching to join in as well and decided that now was a good time to make out escape to my room.

'Okay. Now you've met my brothers, so let's avoid any more embarrassment. See you guys.' I hastily said and all but dragged Yvonne with me, leaving my brothers bellowing with laughter downstairs.

'It must be wonderful to have such caring brothers.' She commented as I closed the bedroom door.

'I love them but I swear their mission is sometimes to embarrass me in front all my friends and now girlfriend.' I sighed and collapsed face down on my bed. 'I think it's like a secret book they have. How to embarrass Claire, the handbook.' I mumbled.

'Think it's universal. Most older brothers with sisters seems to be like that.' The bed shifted beside me as Yvonne sat down.

'Wouldn't surprise me to be honest. Now let's just start researching so I can put this embarrassing memory away for a while.' She chuckled again.

'As you wish.' We both pulled up our laptops and snuggled up in my bed. We chatted idly about different articles about vampires, most of them were just repost of other articles we had already seen but we had to read them carefully. Just one tiny detail could make a difference.

Though I wasn't being as productive. My mind kept wandering and all sorts of scenes with Yvonne and me played out in my head. And I just knew that since I could hear my heart, then she definitely heard it.

'You know... Your heart keeps racing every now and then. Something still on your mind?' Yvonne asked without even looking up from the article she was reading on her laptop.

Yeah, how about my brothers sparking an imagination about the two of us..alone.

I silently scolded myself. No way was I saying that out loud.

'Does it by any chance have to do with what your brothers suggested might happen?' My heart almost skipped a beat. Damn. I really needed to control my heart. It was always giving me away so easily.

'Sor-!' I was about to apologize, feeling extremely embarrassed, when I was interrupted by her soft lips suddenly on mine. My eyes widened with surprise. This was definitely an interesting turn of events and I was definitely not complaining. Our laptops were already tucked away safely as Yvonne now straddled me. Super speed was gonna be so useful in the future.

I closed my eyes and eagerly responded. My hands entwining in her hair. The kiss was passionate and demanding, not like any of the others. My lips parted with a small moan.

'Claire.' She murmured. 'I-!'

We both let out a groan as the sound of a phone interrupted us. Great way to kill the mood and it seemed to become quite common now for things to interrupt us. Yvonne didn't look pleased either, actually she looked almost furious, as she fished her phone from her pocket. Her expression immediately changed to that of shock as she read the contents of the message.

'What is it?'

'It's from my father. ' Her gaze found mine.

'They've found a way to help Aiden!'

I'm SO sorry that it went this long before I updated but so much personal stuff has happened lately that I only just now finally managed to sit down and finish this up.

Hopefully I'll be back to a somewhat normal updating schedule now.
