(15) The First Bite

'P-pureblood?' I asked in disbelief. That went against everything that Yvonne had told me about humans being turned. I cringed as I swallowed nervously. Apparently my throat was getting even drier than it already was. It was now physically painful to swallow.

'It's not unheard of.' My gaze flickered back to Yasuo.

'What... do you mean?'

'Someone in your family has to be a vampire.'

'Dad, you can't be serious.'

'It hasn't happened for a few decades now that I know of but the child of a human and a vampire has a fifty percent chance of being born with dormant genes that can unlock their status as a pureblood later in life.' I took a sharp intake of breath.

The child of a human and a vampire...?

But that would imply that either my mom or my dad was...

I could scarcely believe it. It seemed so far fetched. They were completely normal, boring and slightly too strict parents sometimes. How could any of them be a vampire? They had to be really good at acting then.

'Dear, maybe we should do this later before the poor girl goes into shock.' Alicia put a hand on her husband's arm.

'Ah, yes. Forgive me. We should focus on making the transition as painless as possible.'

'Isn't there anyway to... undo it?' I had to ask even if I knew what the answer would be. It was just that I wasn't ready to suddenly become a vampire.

'No, there isn't. I'm sorry. I know this seems terrifying but allow us to help you and guide you safely into a this new life.' I could feel my lips tremble and tears pooled in my eyes. This was beyond terrifying and I was only now starting to realize what I had actually gotten myself.

'Yvonne?' Yvonne nodded in silent agreement beside me. She apparently knew what he had wanted to say. 

'Can you stand?' She asked as she turned towards me with a worried gaze. I shook my head. Standing would probably just make me pass out. My tunnel vision wasn't completely gone yet, it still lurked in the edges of my vision.

Yvonne gently put her arms behind my back and under my knees before lifting me off the ground with ease. She deliberately used human speed as she walked upstairs and brought me into her bedroom that I was getting more and more acquainted with.  I felt my heart start to pound loudly in my ears.

'It's nothing to be afraid of.' Yvonne murmured in a gentle voice as she put me back down on her comfortable bed.

'I can't help it.' I whispered back, tears forming in my eyes and threatening to spill. 'What's going to happen now?' I continued, folding my arms around myself.

'You're not gonna like it, but you need blood to complete the transformation.'

'No.' Was my instant reply. I wasn't even close to coming to terms with becoming a vampire and now I had to drink blood so I could complete it? Not a chance. 

'You need blood, Claire. It's not up for discussion. If you don't you'll go feral.' I still shook my head in silent denial.

'I- I can't! I just can't!'

'It's scary. Probably beyond scary, but I promise that you'll feel better afterwards.'

'How? I'll be a vampire!' 

'Someone in your family already is a vampire. It's been in your genes all this time. It's not going to feel much different other than the fact that you're stronger and faster. Not to mention perks like having perfect vision and incredibly good hearing.' 

'You're forgetting the part where I'm going to have to drink blood every so often!' 

'We don't feed that often. It's usually only once a month and the blood we drink has been donated. It's not like we go out and find humans to feed on. We're not monsters. We just have a different... diet I suppose." It did make me feel better but not by a lot. I didn't have a lot of options and I most certainly didn't want to go feral which had been Malik's plan. I sighed in defeat. 

'Fine.' 

'Don't worry, I'll be here to help you through it.' And with that Yvonne brought her wrist to her lips and gently bit down. Seconds later the smell hit me. It was even more intoxicating than the smell that had bombarded me in my home earlier when Ashley had visited. I could feel my mouth watering. Yvonne pulled away and I saw two puncture wounds with blood slowly oozing out. She held her hand out towards me. 

'I'm scared that I'll hurt you.' I murmured, feeling fear creep up on me again. Yvonne chuckled a bit at my reply and gently caressed the side of my face with her other hand. 

'It won't hurt me. It feels like getting stung by a mosquito.'

'That still doesn't make it any better!' I grumbled but sat up and gently held her hand. Yvonne gave me a nod. I took a deep breath before bending down and placing my lips over the wound. I was prepared for the metallic taste that I knew blood tasted like but it never came. Instead it tasted sweet, not to mention that it was soothing my painfully dry throat. I pulled back once the worst had been soothed but not before placing a kiss to her wrist. The wound had already started healing and it was barely bleeding anymore. Guess I had that to look forward to as well.

'How do you feel?' Yvonne asked. 

'Strange but better. My throat still feels dry, but not like it's on fire every time I swallow.' The dizziness I had felt was also gone and the same could be said with the exhaustion. 

'It will still take a few hours before your powers start appearing, but at least you're on the right path to become a vampire now.' 

'Yeah, now I just have to figure out if my mom or my dad has been keeping a huge secret from me. Wait! Does that mean my brothers could have those dormant genes as well?' 

'It's a possibility. Like my dad said, it's a fifty percent chance. They could be completely human.' I sighed again. This was a complete and utter mess. 

'How am I even going to find out who's a vampire?' 

'They will know as soon as you get home. Though I do think I know whom it might be.' 

'Who?' 

'Think about it. I've met your mom-' 

'-but not my dad.' I finished for Yvonne, realization hitting me like a brick.  

'And your mom is definitely not a vampire.'

Short chapter, I know. But it just felt great to end it there :) 
The next chapter will be much longer :D
