I woke up to the soft beeping noise of the heart monitor. I looked around the room and noticed Calvin, sleeping at the end of the bed in a couch. I turned to my right and noticed the small sink and bathroom. Then reality hit me. I was in the hospital. I tried to retrace my steps and then I remembered Linlee put me here. I turned to my left and saw the oxygen levels, contraction sheet, and all these machines wired and hooked onto me. My heart raced as my hands slowly moved up to my stomach. I couldn't feel anything below my waist. There was no sensitivity of me moving. However, I knew I still had my legs. I shakily moved my hands down my body.
I closed my eyes and touched it. I was relieved when I still had a belly. Nutella was still in me. I smiled and closed my eyes. But it didn't really surprised me. I was pregnant and about to go in labor. There was a tight feeling squeezing around my belly as the pressure knocked into me. I looked to my left and I saw the lines jumping on the sheet. It was just a contraction.
Slowly I reached up to grab the remote. I clicked on the "NURSE CALL" button and turned on the television. I wondered how long it would take for me to be able to push.
Immediately, the sound of television came on as the images poured over the screen. News started to broadcast as the first screen came on. I turned to look at Calvin when he was stirring. I smiled at him and lowered down the volume coming from the screen. "Morning," I said.
Calvin smiled up at me and yawned. "Morning, babe. How are you? You got me quite scared when you passed out."
I raised my eyebrow. "What happened?"
"Well after I came out from the shower, I wrapped myself with a towel and your creepy friend, Linlee, kept staring at my junk. Grossed out, I punched her so she could knock out. Then I ran to you and you were screaming in pain but then when I went to pick you up, there was blood. I called 911 and you were gone like a light bulb. I quickly grabbed my clothes on and tried to help you regain your conscious but you were cold and quiet. I was so scared you were dead!" He said as he got up from his seat. He came to my right side and kissed my cheek.
"Well here I am. Alive and such." I said.
"And you're ready to give birth to our baby girl." He said.
I laughed and looked down at my belly. I felt another pressure banging through the walls of my stomach as I grabbed Calvin's hand tightly. "I feel the contractions!" I yelled.
Calvin held my hand tightly. "How? I offered you to get an epidural?"
"Still doesn't cover it. It doesn't hurt as much but I could feel the pain." I said.
Calvin nodded and I screamed out loudly.
After twenty seconds, I breathed in deeply and looked at him. Curious about Linlee, I had to ask. "What about Linlee?"
Calvin shrugged. "After I knocked her out, I put her in the baby's room. She probably went to her night job and at the apartment, sleeping away."
I nodded and then looked at the television. I groaned when they show the picture of a missing toddler. I changed it to the comedy channel. "I'm so done. I'm ready to push."
Then the nurses came in with the doctor. "Ah, Vivian Houston. You are awake!" He said.
I looked at them awkwardly and nodded. "And?" I said.
"Well it looks like your contractions are not steady. You are in labor two months early. Actually, a month and two weeks early. It is quite a risk. But we can do a vaginal birth if you wish." He said.
I looked at the nurse as she counted my contractions. "What about the blood?"
"That was early labor bleeding. The question is if you want to go through with the vaginal birth? We usually don't recommend it but your baby is growing at a fine pace." Doctor Logan said.
